Yes it would be too long. I’m 5’5” & it’s perfect length for me .

Q: The robe I currently wear is like velcro. Does that happen with this robe?

The material is quite comfortable. Not too hot or cool. Not sure what “ like Velcro” means. I’m very pleased with the look and the comfort of my blue and gray robe.

Q: For those of you who machine dry this robe, has it stood up over time?

It's been great. There have not been any problems with machine wash and dry.

Q: can you see through this material in the sun?

Although I have not gone outside in the sun and asked someone else if they can see through the material, It does not seem as if the material is see through. It is a decently thick material that keeps you warm, but not too warm.
