Excellent
This is an excellent guide to dermatology and I use it frequently in my consutling practice. I am GP & Trainer and often we will refer to the textbook for my own learning and for teaching cases. Its a wonderful quick reference guide by way of really useful photos. The information is simpler, clear and very useful especially for mamagment of conditions we may encounter.Well written , essential and simple to use.

Had this for a few weeks now. Great little book covering much of the core knowledge for dermatology. Currently a third year student and found this pitched at a good level for me, although I can see it being helpful for younger students or those looking to refresh/have a companion for wards/clinics. Nice intro sections for basic physiology and description of treatment options. Also great to have a wide range of images to actually show what many of the lesions look like.Only criticism would be that it feels quite focused on the specific skin presentations and doesn't necessarily explain any systemic or co-morbid disease, but this is probably fair given the focus of the book. Also found one or two minor typos but they were easy to spot. Easy to read and just shy of 5 stars.

A very handy pocketbook which is suitable for any medical professional at any stage. Perfect for a quick reference when you hear an unfamiliar term or to read a chapter on a train. It starts with the basics then builds up by summarising dermatological conditions in subgroups according to disease types. Pictures are fab- full of colour and most explanations have a picture to refer to so you know exactly what they are describing. There is one chapter "diagnostic pathway" which has a set of flow charts for certain signs e.g if someone comes in with a drug rash, it describes the next set of signs/ symptoms which will aid in differentiating all the different causes which is very helpful.I am a 3rd year med student at Liverpool University and this book has been very useful for me so far. I can also imagine it will continue to be extremely helpful for me beyond student years and as a doctor.Would highly recommend.

An excellent introduction to Dermatology
An excellent introduction into Dermatology, a specialty not traditionally covered in great detail in the medical school curriculum. The book opens up with a basic sciences section that details the physiology and pathophysiology that would be expected at the pre-clinical level. Then, a section of naming the various types of dermatological lesions, something that can often be confusing if you are not familiar with the terminology. What I really liked about the book were the extensive flow charts that allows you to distinguish between the common dermatological conditions that would come up in both real life and medical school exams. The common conditions such as eczema, infection etc, are particularly emphasised throughout the book, unsurprising given that they are common exam fodder. Another excellent point are the clinical scenarios that allow you to test your understand and your approaches to patients with skin disease. They are very well-written scenarios but would have liked to have seen more of them! The images are clear and well-spread out throughout the bookOverall, an excellent and great value introduction to the specialty in a concise, clear and condensed format.

Ideal for a medical student!
I am a 3rd year medical student. Whilst on placement in hospital and general practice I come across a plethora of dermatological conditions and required a small portable book that I could carry for my quick reference. The images in the book are great resolution and nearly every condition listed has an photograph with it to make the condition identifiable. For specialities like dermatology, the PocketTutor series is ideal as a whole textbook seems wholly unnecessary unless you are aiming to specialise. The series could maybe do with a more concise layout i.e. one disease profile per page or double page spread like in the Oxford handbooks, however I would argue that the content is more relevant and certainly its an easier read that the Oxford handbooks. It is great that the book splits sections up into further subsections of dermatology e.g. paediatric dermatology, surgical dermatology, dermatology in pregnancy etc. This makes it easier for me as a medical student to know what skin problems I am likely to encounter on those particular wards. Once again I would say this is a worthy spend of £12. Would highly recommend!

Really good dermatology guide
Really handy book. Covers most of the stuff medical students should know on dermatology. I particularly liked the flow charts, great for consolidating knowledge and making sense of the tricky specialty. The explanations are easy to follow and so this is definitely a book that can be read cover to cover. My only criticism would be that it would be nice to have a more pictures. There are certain conditions without accompanying photos and others with only one photo. Apart from that, I would say that this is a solid investment.
