Quality Shore Type A gage. I tested it and it is accurate.
For years I was using an old analog Shore type A gage to test the rubber hardness of the tires we used on our track cars. It is / was an expensive gage made by the "Shore Instrument and Manufacturing Co. It came with a small, certified device to every so often, test and verify the accuracy. It has remained accurate for many years. This digital gage claims to be certified so I tested i by : A) Using the Shore test standard device which is calibrated to 60A this gage read 60.5A while the older one read 61A as close as you can read an analog device. B) I took 5 readings on an older tire with both gages and they both agreed within +/- 2 units. This variation is completely normal when testing something like rubber, especially a tire that does not have any flat surfaces. Bottom line, this gage seems to be very accurate and it is very easy to use. It comes with a very nice storage case, a spare battery and an easy to read instruction manual. It also has a "hold function" which is very convenient. I cannot comment on durability at this time but it is of solid construction indicated by the weight and feels very good in your hand. Definitely recommended at its price point.

So far so good
So far I've been using this to try to help identify some off-cut material I've picked up over the years. Readings from this line up pretty closely with published values for what I suspect is Delrin. The case fits well, and repeated readings with this seem consistent.
