Annie Rose Is My Little Sister : Hughes, Shirley: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Best ever series for children - Like new, early delivery, unbeatable price, favourite book of all the Alfie series Review: Very good - I bought this for my 2 and a half year old who was having trouble getting along with her 8 month old sister. It's a lovely book with wonderful illustrations and just the right detail and length. It has helped her understand all the things she and her sister can do together as they get older. She now also, like Alfie, plays with her toys that she doesn't want her sister to touch on the table and shares the others. I'd definately recommend this book, it's a classic that all children, especially those with siblings, should have.

Makes me cry (in a good way)!
Bought this because I have a daughter and son a similar age to the children in the book. And I love Shirley Hughes 'dogger'. My son has been much sweeter to his little sister since! Holding her hand etc. It just captures tiny children perfectly, so much so makes me and even my hubby bit tearful each time we read it. Lovely detailed illustrations. As soon as we got it my three year old son wanted me to read it again and again. A classic.

Shirley Hughes at her absolute best
I bought this second hand for £1, and I can honestly say it's one of the best pounds I have ever spent on my children. This book is so sentimentally perfect, it rings so close to home with my own son and daughter and never fails to make me tear up. My children embrace their relationship and their potential as brother and sister to love and cherish each other, through reading this book together. Absolutely beautiful, this is Shirley Hughes at her very best.

A lovely book for children
Lovely book, a really nice way to talk about a little sister and big brother relationship with your children. Beautifully illustrated, very true to life, lovely heartfelt words.

Delightful
Another great Alfie book, with lovely illustrations, in which Alfie describes what it’s like to have a little sister. Great book for kids aged 2-6, especially if they have siblings!

Child friendly
I love these books the illustrations are great giving lots to talk about & explore with your children. I think even though the stories are everyday life they spur on childrens imagination. I read them to my children years ago now my children read them to their children. The author obviously understands children. What better recommendation do you need

I absolutely love this book, especially for families with an older boy/younger girl dynamic (mine are 5 and 2 and 1/2)! This story perfectly captures the sibling bond, from absolute love to absolute annoyance. I gave it to a friend with a 5 year old boy and 2 year old girl and she cried at the end, where it concludes, "But she will always be my little sister." This book will always remind me of my children at this age, and I will probably keep it long after they are grown.

We adore all Shirley Hughes books, and this is no exception. As usual, the illustrations are beautiful and ageless. I gave this 4 stars rather than 5 as I had hoped there would be more of a story-line to it, all the same - it is a lovely description of what a baby sister is to her big brother.

Our whole family love Shirley Hughes books, they are just fantastic. I grew up with "Alfie Gets in First" but never knew there were others until I had kids of my own. Now we are working on collecting them all. Both my 3 year old and 1 year old sons love these books. They are simple stories of real life as a child with beautiful illustrations.

If you haven't met Alfie yet, this is a gorgeous introduction. We bought this for my 3 year old son when I was expecting my 2nd, which turned out to be a girl. My 3 year old listens very attentively and smiles in all the right places. It's as if he's wondering when he too will be able to do all these things with his little sister.
