One of the finest
This book has got me hooked like none other. After reading Crime and Punishment, I was intrigued by how the author described every situation; it feels like you are experiencing it firsthand, learning about the protagonist on the way.I received a torn book but was so curious to read the book that I didn't return it and kept the torn one instead. It is a little bit damaged, something I can overlook, but it's a damn good book to indulge yourself in.

Kudos to Dostoyevsky,,,,,, what a way to squander one's infinite leisure...
To absolutely appreciate this book one needs to be a little eccentric or idiotic himself or the book may fail to have any affect whatsoever. The larger section of the current literary leagues are simply immune to the Dostoyevsky's universe. Dostoyevsky narrating an ordinary story in greater detail than any human could possibly have. Dostoyevsky omits no thread in exploring the intricate and perplexing tapestry of the human psychology. I bet Dostoyevsky would give a run to Sigmund Freud. Whether the book appeals to your taste , is subject to your temperament and literary exposure ,,, but i be invariably testifying to the infallible assertion that reading through this odyssey shall surely make u live and experience as at least as an eccentric character or even the idiot himself. It is getting hotter here in south india during this 29 day of march 17, but i can feel the cold as if i were going down the St Petersburg in a drosky.....................

Most boring plot I have ever read.
It is Dostoevsky. I read such raving reviews of this book online and so I ordered. I mastered through part I, II, and III somehow, but could not finish final part. There were few parts I liked but other than that, this entire book is just a big long conversation between characters! And not an interesting one at that. I liked where he talked about execution being too severe a punishment even for the most heinous criminals because there is no hope left for them ( it kind of changed my entire outlook on how I view capital punishment now); then he talked about Love. I like some parts where Prince talks about Nastasia and keeps claiming how he "does not love her but just pities her". That kind of non acceptance is very real. I have seen actual people doing that around me. Other than that, there is nothing I loved or even liked in this colossal piece of work. I read Eva Martin's translation, I don't know maybe it is translated poorly. There are a lot of references to 19th century Russian society that would fly over a 21st century's non Russian readers head. Go for it if you have immense patience.Although I feel proud of myself for sticking up to 3 complete parts. Maybe one day, I will read the final part as well so that it stops haunting me. I don't like to leave anything unfinished.

Shockingly terrible translation
I'm sure it is an amazing novel, but I could not get past the first chapter due to the mind-bogglingly terrible translation. It looks like the whole 600+ pages were smashed into Google Translate and then sold as the "English edition". I hope I can somehow get e refund for this piece of trash, as I will have to buy a different edition now in order to actually read the novel. Shocking.
