This book is HUGE! It's filled the overflowing with exactly the kind of information a homeowner (or renter or squatter, or whatever!) needs to do all the little things for themselves. I've bought a dozen or so home improvement books, and most end up a huge disappointment. Not so the "Big Book of Home How-To (Better Homes & Gardens)". Unlike other BH&G books and magazines, this is not a "wish" book full of beautiful pictures and impossible to attain on a budget homes and gardens. This is a very useful tool to do all the honey-do's and a lot of the "let's just hire someone" projects. All in clear, easy to follow instructions with useful tips on avoiding common mistakes. You would have to attend several trade schools to get the kind of information contained in this one volume. To prove how useful this book is, this is my 3rd copy. Every time I loan it to someone they don't want to give it back! If you only buy one DIY book in your lifetime, buy this one. But don't loan it out, or you'll be buying it again, and again and again!

I bought this book because of the reviews and for my son-in-law who just bought his first home. These self help books are a go-to reverence to anyone jumping into repairing/fixing common household problems. If you can read, follow instructions, and obtain the tools required, it can help a homeowner in choosing which project to do and which to outsource to the professional. It also gives one an understanding of the "bones" of your home and what to tell the professional when outsourcing a problem that may save you money. Good source.

I bought this as a gift for a couple who just bought their first home. I had picked up my copy in a bargain bin a few years ago and was very pleased at the depth and breadth of the information in it. I delivered the gift to my friend at a meeting of a woodworking club we are both members of, and it ended up getting passed around among several members. Those old DIY homeowners remarked on how useful they thought it was. I found the sections on heating systems and on drywall to be especially good.

This book guides you how to repair your home equipment steps by steps. I am not a handy man but I enjoy to fix any house problem. Heard this book from my friend and founds lots of know-how to improve your/repair house problems. Definitely will recommend to friends who are looking for similar book.

I love this book, I learned so much out of it over the time I had it now and have jumped at projects that other way I propably would have never tackled.Great illustration on projects, teaching you about the tools you will need and such. I would highly recommend this book!!!

Item arrived early and was in better condition than described. Very happy with purchase. A little bulky for a quick go to guide, but a terrific all around reference book.

The book itself is wonderfully helpful. I bought two more copies as gifts for my boys. But Amazon no longer knows how to pack and ship Books. You all keep asking for reviews of your packaging. But it's so clear ... you aren't listening. Until you've got leadership who is able to read and understand, please stop asking for reviews.

For both my son and son-in-law. They both have homes and might need a reference book if they want to tackle a DIY project. I liked this book over others because it had neat diagrams of what to do with everyday things that can go wrong in a home. I was not looking for a project manual for them, just how to deal common, household trouble.
