House of the Dead [UMD for PSP]

I gave this DVD 1 star only because Amazon will not let me give NO STARS.I saw this movie on cable a few years ago and enjoyed it for what it was, a college kid party turned zombie/slasher movie with plenty of nudity and blood. I recently saw the House of the Dead II and decided to buy both movies. Faced with the choice of the R version and this unrated director's cut, I thought "goodie" and went for it. I wish I'd bought the R version. If you enjoy Mystery Science Theater, Elvira's Movie Macabre and Svengoolie's interruptions of horror films with sophomoric humor, you will love this version. If you find such nonsense an annoying, tedious and stupid distraction from your enjoyment of a movie, pass this one by and get the R rated version. The unrated version is full of stupid word balloons, intercut BS and sudden pauses that interrupt the flow of the story. If you live for that stuff, by all means buy it and and start praying that they commit the same butchery on House of the Dead II.

If you're looking for a good movie, this is not for you. If you're looking for a feature for your cheesy movie night, it just might be. Loosely based on the video game of the same title, the film features a group of random kids on an island overrun by zombies. Honestly, that's the extent of the plot. There's nothing really original here, and no real characterization, but there certainly are some fun visuals if you're looking for over-the-top zombie violence.Say this in the film's defense: it seems completely self-aware and never tires to be more than it is. However, though it's certainly intended to be just a fun ride, it only achieves that some of the time. It alternates between "just plain bad" and "so bad it's good" territory. An extended sequence of zombie violence, for instance, was a lot of fun to watch. Old video game footage cut in during transitions, not so much.Ultimately, if you're looking for something you can laugh at while enjoying some adult beverages during a cheesy movie night, this one won't disappoint. If you're looking for anything artful, or even anything memorable, you'd be well-served to look elsewhere.

Twenty somethings sail to an island with a "former U-Boat captain...ha..ha" and his idiot first mate to party down with other twenty somethings. Their attacked by zombie like cryptids led by a centuries old Spanish religious psychotic with lines on his face. Much mayhem ensues and the twenty somethings all morph into highly skilled combatants with a newly discovered expertise in the use of automatic weapons, sword play and other ninja like attributes. I'm guessing they learned all their skills from their cell phones, "Siri, how do I use an assault rifle and a katana"? The film is OK, lots of fighting and gore which is what the film was meant for. The animated inserts throughout the film were stupid though. There are worse ways to waste your time.

TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE THIS HAS PARTS OF THE ARCADE GRPHICS FROM THE GAME INCLUDED IN BETWEEN THE FILM. I LOVDE LOW BUDGET ZOMBIE FILMS NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD SURE, DAWN OF THE DEAD , DAY OF THE DEAD EVEN RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD LOW BUDGET BUT WELL FILMED. THIS HOWEVER IS JUST GARBAGE!!!

This movie was terrible. Terrible acting. Terrible music. And the worst part is the nudity. We basically had to skip the first 15 minutes of the movie because of it. Will not watch again. Wasnt even worth the $4 we paid to watch it.

This movie is so bad I don't know why I love it. not only is it loosely based on the video game by the same name, it is formatted like a video game. Complete with techno-rave music our heroes bounce from quest to quest level to level trying to escape Zombies. Each time they succeed in making it to one safe house the number of zombies increase. They have to cross waters and forest. Hide in houses all as their numbers dwindle at each level. The video game feel is actually refreshing but like all Boll adaptations it really is substandard. Unfortunately I still like this one. One note to Smallville fans....Erica Durance (Lois Lane) has a topless swim before being killed early in the movie.

I actually enjoyed this movie quite a bit. At it's heart, it's an okay zombie flick. Tons of boobs and blood, acting that ranges from average to "I'm reading this off a cue card", a story that was vaguely interesting, and a script that was crap, but not much worse than the average zombie flick. The truly hilarious part is the camera work and editing - it's as if someone let a group of hyperactive kindergartners loose in a room full of professional editing equipment, and five days later, this is the result. Every camera gimmick you saw in the Matrix is repeated here, over and over, and over and over, and over and over again. And then it's repeated a bunch more times. For some reason, there's a flashback sequence in the middle of the movie where the last 30 minutes is run again in about 30 seconds. Why? Because Ewe Boll forgot he was making a movie and though he was working on an MTV video. There are also hundreds of quick video game shots thrown in at random intervals. They're actually kind of amusing. This film could have been improved by removing about 3,000 edits from the final product, but did I mention it was edited by a group of hyperactive kindergartners flying on sugar and caffeine?If you can laugh at the fact that the camera gimmicks completely overshadow the story on several occasions, this is actually an enjoyable film. Okay, maybe you need to be able to laugh at the idiotic dialogue too, but THEN you can enjoy the film. The shootouts are actually a blast, plinking zombies out a lake with high powered rifles - I loved it.

As bad movies go, this is a good one. It never takes itself seriously, and there's plenty of guilty pleasures throughout. So if your looking for a zombie slaughter fest, with both action and a decent amount of skin, this will fit the bill.

I'm sure most bigger Ytube reviewers are OWNED and push what their paymasters say. And most little ( basement) " reviewer's " want to be part of the gang and don't want to be the odd man out. Regarding ' contemporary ' movies, House of the Dead is like the DOOM movie, another GAME adaptation that will be an entertaining hour and a half. No, it's not Shakespeare, but neither is 95% of the other films being made. The obvious witch hunt and lambasting of the director, makes me smell a rat. And anyone that thinks the film industry isn't a mafia, with sub groups fighting, is nieve.

not a top film but still good glad I bought it

OK, this film is pretty awful, I don't think I need to explain why if you've read the other reviews.It's certainly not for afficionados of cinema. However, if you enjoy a cheap, dumb, shlocky horror/action film you'll love this.Forget the fact that it's loosley based on the Sega franchise, pick it up cheaply on amazon and enjoy it for what it is; absolute nonsense.Massively entertaining, good lads night in with a few beers flick.
