Aarke Carbonator 3, Sparkling Water Maker with Water Bottle, Matte White Finish

I had been thinking about buying a carbonator for ages but couldn’t decide which one to get and just needed a push in the right direction. The Aarke one was recommended in the Christmas gift guide in my weekend paper, so I decided to take the plunge.Mine is off-white, powder coated in matt, very attractive, and while a tall item it has a pleasingly small footprint, important as it really has to be out on the kitchen worktop permanently; it gets used daily, and our kitchen is not big.The CO2 cartridges need to be bought separately of course. I’m keeping track of how many bottles (0.8l each) I get out of the cartridges, and then I’ll have an idea of what the running cost of this will be. I see no reason why this carbonator should not last for many years.It’s important to read the instructions, and then maybe read them again (I overlooked an important bit the first time around). They are not long or complicated at all, and the carbonator is easy to use but you do need to pay attention to each step, especially while it’s new to you. It comes with a clear list of Do’s and Don’ts, also very important.The environmental benefits of no longer buying 3-4 2 litre plastic bottles per week in the supermarket to then be put into recycling are immediate. Making the purchase cost back will take a little longer.Whilst I am still broadly happy with this purchase and would still recommend the item, there is an update, namely that I only got a fraction of the carbonisation I should have had out of my first CO2 cartridge. Whether this is due to the cartridge or the carbonator is of course not clear.On checking I noticed the cartridge had ever so slightly unscrewed itself, so I may have used/lost more gas each use than I should have. Am currently in contact with Aarke’s customer service about this. After a prompt response initially they asked for a photo of a particular area, which they have had for 3 days and I am waiting for an answer. For that reason I have deducted a star for the moment. Hopefully it will all be resolved soon.
