Fascinating as a toy besides its more practical uses
A very affordable and well made item with a large, colorful display that is easy to read and with pages and pages of different displays allowing you to customize what you want to see and how you want to see it. This is a "smart" device that can link to your PC and through the cable, the battery is kept charged for two or three days of field surveys. More if you turn it off between uses. I bought this just for the fun of detecting uranium in the Chinle and Morrison geologic formations of the Colorado Plateau and seeing for myself that genuine dinosaur bones and petrified wood from those formations can be quite radioactive. As mentioned, I bought this just for fun and not for any practical, safety or economic reasons. Unfortunately I have not had an opportunity to use the device for its intended purpose, but I have confirmed that the unit is functioning well. It sure would be nice to have a counter that displayed actual EVs of the radiation so that I could tell just what radioactive elements are present, but they cost more and for me, it just for a whim more than anything else. When visiting dinosaur museums, I'll turn off all alarms and sounds so as not to panic the public if a bone proves to be a bit "spicy" and I recommend others do so too.

Nuclear Radiation Detector
Although the item is lightweight, the materials that were chosen seem to be sturdy enough to survive the everyday handling that it undergoes. Even when the levels of illumination are low, the huge color LCD display is bright and simple to see. When I utilized this device in a low-light condition, I must say that the screen functioned quite well, providing me with clear readings without causing my eyes to strain. You can easily move between the various alarms and settings because of the menu's user-friendly interface, which has navigation buttons that react quickly. I discovered that its measurements were very accurate, with only tiny discrepancies, when compared to the readings of other professional equipment that I have in my laboratory. When I am monitoring ambient levels or testing particular things for contamination, it is comforting to know that it has the capability to deliver dependable results. Depending on the location in which I am working, the five various forms of alarms—sound, vibration, light, data recording, and email notification—provide me with a variety of alternatives to tailor the manner in which I get alerts. This is really helpful.

High performance, low cost.
I knew I wanted a dosimeter, and this one seemed like a good value. After running around my house checking for anything more radioactive than normal background levels, I’m happy to report I didn’t find anything alarming. Yay. The buttons are straightforward and the navigation is intuitive, though the measurements and terminology do take a bit of Googling at first to really understand what the device is telling you. The unit is surprisingly light. It doesn’t feel like it would take much of a beating, so if you plan to toss it in a bag, you’ll want to be a little careful. A silicone case would go a long way toward protecting it from everyday bumps. I haven’t looked yet, but I’d be surprised if someone doesn’t make one. Size-wise, it’s about like a deck of cards, maybe a bit larger, but you get the idea.

A Quality Unit at a Reasonable Price Point
If you need a Geiger Counter and a Dosimeter, this detector is for you. I have years of experience working in PWR and BWR nuclear plants during outage inspections. The radiation surveys performed by Radiation Protection Specialists were completed by using Geiger Counters and paper smear tests. Early models of Geiger Counters were bulky, and dosimeters looked like a thick pen. Then, digital models of dosimeters similar to pagers were the new standard. This unit is the best of both worlds. It displays multiple screen pages of various information in color. It has a speaker to hear the hit counts, and it works fine in quieter areas. I would prefer to have a little more volume to increase the sound while working in noisy environments. Battery life is good. The rechargeable battery lasts between 3 and 4 days when the unit is left on while using the CPM dosimeter function. It comes with a soft case, but I recommend purchasing a hard case to provide additional protection for the detector. A credit card-sized Radiation Safety Guide, charging cord, carabiner, and instructions are included. It’s a nice piece of equipment for the money.

Received quickly and works well. I can't vouch for accuracy as I don't have anything to compare it to, but I put it close to my smoke detector (they all contain Americium) and it did pick up the radiation. Very easy to use, highly recommended!
