A very readable summary of women who helped preserve our western lands.
A very readable summary of women who in various roles helped preserve our western lands. It is organized by chapters such as "Botanizers, Birders, and Other Naturalists; Writers and Poets; Climbers and Other Athletes; Travelers and Tourists; etc. Each chapter runs through prominent and obscure women with a brief biography and explanation of how they helped. As a write this in the week that President Trump chose to open huge protected areas of Utah and Arizona at Bears Ears and Escalante-Grand Staircase to fossil fuel development and destructive recreational uses,I am inspired by reading this history as much as I can imagine how disappointed these courageous and dedicated women would be at this course of events. Advocating for the environment has a rich history and this book helps to keep that legacy meaningful now and into the future, even as battles apparently need to be fought again.
