I bought this textbook for a grammar class in uni, and I am not exaggerating when I say that both changed my life. If you can't take a rhetorical grammar course in uni (which I strongly recommend if you're a student), this is the next best thing!

Today, I read the last page of the last chapter of this book titled "Glossary of Punctuation"—a smashing milestone for my writing! Previously, I could not have written the sentence you just read with any degree of confidence in the syntax, punctuation or effects on the reader. Granted, this is not an entry level grammar or syntax textbook for writers like me who had no formal training in writing : its writing style is different from the usual grammar books out there. I am glad I read it after reading the Rules for Writers by Diane Hacker and Nancy Sommers; otherwise, I would have been disappointed with it as a one-star-reviewer has mentioned.This book is gold for anyone serious about writing. Looking froward from here, I can only imagine the long writing relationship I will have with this book!

I rented this book for a class assignment before purchasing a brand new copy for myself to use in my classroom. Grammar is an important component in writing that we cannot ignore, and this resource effectively connects grammar with rhetoric. It starts from the basics of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs and leads you through the construction of sentences. It's a shame that this book is too expensive even to rent, but it is valuable.

Easy to read but full of information that needs be read in chunks. Practicing the exercises provided will make for more polished writing. It's very help that the odd answers are given in the back for us visual learners.
