great knife storage option for an OCD person... practical, too
There is no sense to get a full set of knives with a knife block when you only use 2-3 on the daily basis. Just hand pick the ones you like and roll. But how do you keep them organized? Drawer is not a good option - neighboring with all the flatware, knives get dull. Magnetic wall strip, while looks neat, also ruins knives (same thing - metal against metal). Buy a wooden block? There is no guarantee the slots will match your hand-picked knives and remaining empty slots will drive you NUTS if you have even slightest case of OCD... And keeping knives in the open is simply dangerous. My boyfriend is a living proof. He kept cutting himself until I bough THIS. Great looking clean-cut black and white. Very sturdy, with a heavy bottom. Easy to use - you don't have to aim the knife into the slot under a certain angle to make sure it goes in. There simply aren't individual slots and no angles - you can stick the knife in without even looking. And Amazon offers it for almost 40% less than Bed-Bath-Beyond where they don't even have white, only stainless steel - ewwwww... sooooo twentieth century and impossible to keep spotless!!!

Best knife block ever!!!
I can't recommend this knife block enough, both for personal use and as a gift. I bought mine when these first came out and have since then given it as a gift several times, always to great acclaim. As other reviewers will undoubtedly describe, the block itself is made out of hundreds of little black fibers that are of a thickness and consistency that to me is reminiscent of the bristles on snow brushes, only probably a little thinner. They are grouped in tightly so when you slide a knife in and out they shape themselves to the knife and hold it in place. When it gets dirty, all you have to do is pop it into the dishwasher and it cleans up just as nicely as the day you bought it!As I said, I have had mine for years, and it has gotten a lot of use. It still looks perfect--no bent or loose fibers, and I am not easy on products! My one wish is that it was able to hold more knives--there is a capacity because eventually you will stick so many knives in there that the fibers will compress enough to not be able to put in more. Having said that, it holds just as many knives as a standard knife block, so that is a minor complaint.

An excellent knife block
I purchased one of these because my mother received one as a gift and I think it is awesome. My brother in law used to work as a chef and would not stand by while and of us used wooden knife blocks. It had to be either magnetic strips or this. I am glad I got to see it before buying because the base is a little bigger than the picture shows. There are lots of little rods that keep the knives in place. It keeps the blades sharp and sanitary. The pieces can be removed and thrown in the dishwasher, so there is even more of a sanitary plus. This is perfect for protecting your expensive knives or just holding your regular ones.

Good product
This is great if you've "grown" your knife assortment from different brands/styles etc... or even if you have all the same brand but are buying it over time and haven't completed it yet. Whatever reason you have a bunch of knives but no knife block. And whatever your assortment of knives this makes it seem "custom fit" to your knives.I also like the way it is seperated into two compartments so that I can have my most used knives front and center and others I can place towards the back. You aren't limited to the size of precut slots like tradional knife blocks. The stainless version is a lot harder to find than the wooden one but I'm glad I waited until I located one, I think it looks great.

Fits All Knife Sizes
I have one of these and love it. You can put all of your knives in one block. Easy to clean too. If some of the strands get bent, you can snip them off and everything still works great. Still holds all of the knives well, maybe better because you can put in more knives easily. Bought this one as a gift.

Best modular knife block. PERIOD.
I was worried by the pictures that this would not have enough room to store our collection of cutlery but I was pleasantly surprised that it hold everything we have very well. We have 6 standard steak knives, 3 paring knives, 3 large chefs knives, 1 long bread knife and 1 smaller chef knife and everything fits great with no overcrowding. I am a huge fan of these modular knife blocks since I've pieced our knife set together over the years. Our last Kapoosh block was the wooden one which was a wedding gift, it unfortunately succumbed to a crack that was most likely the result of improper handling in a sort facility. The block gave us many good years and I believe this one will give us many more.

Terrible quality and construction
Purchased this knife block for my new knife set. I have been so excited to get it and put out my new knives and throw out my old ones! Item arrived completely unuseable and broken. I essentially have 8 pieces if the knife block I was so excited for but nothing to put my knives in. Although I'm almost glad it was broken, the pieces it is in are all cheap and I can't see how this could ever have been the parts of a quality product. Horrible experience. I don't want to wait for shipping time again so I guess I'm going to Bed Bath and Beyond tonight.

Removing the rods for cleaning was completely unnecessary - I just blotted the top with a damp ...
This is my second kapoosh. The first one served me well for about a decade but it finally jammed to the point of frustration. This time I am being mindful of the recommendations to not overfill it. I'm convinced that had I not insisted on cramming every knife in the set into the first one, it would still be working as advertised. The stainless steel still looked new thanks to occasional cleanings using a stainless steel spray cleaner. Removing the rods for cleaning was completely unnecessary - I just blotted the top with a damp rag every couple of months to remove dust. And although I've read of some reviewers complaining of the rods leaving scratches on their knives, I have to say that my expensive Cutco knives are not at all scratched. I am excited to have a fresh start with my new kapoosh - I find it well worth the $40 I paid. This review was not solicited, nor did I get a discounted price for this review. I am just a satisfied customer sharing my experience.

The best part is being able to remove the base entry ...
No one, but no one who knows the importance of knives in a kitchen should be without this. The best part is being able to remove the base entry system and put it into the dishwasher. If I had a bigger kitchen, I'd get two of this attractive item. Hey it's not small and takes four large knives plus my set of six steak knives.
