ACS ACR39U-N1 PocketMate II USB Smart Card Reader

As other reviewers have noted, this works with DoD CAC-cards. I had been using another foldable CAC reader for the past 12 years, but earlier this year it became unusable due to driver conflicts after a Windows 11 update on my personal laptop. Sure, I could have gone to my IT staff to get issued a new CAC reader, but it would have been a model intended for office workstations using a bigger housing and a long USB cable which isn't great for travel (jeez, I carry around too many cables as it is!). So, I ordered the PocketMate II based on the overall highly positive reviews and immediately tested it after it arrived. The device was recognized by Windows right away and the drivers loaded with no problems. That allowed me to connect flawlessly with my organization's remote desktop app. Like my previous CAC reader, this folds up into a size slightly bigger than a USB thumb-drive and fits nicely in my travel bag. In short, I highly recommend this since it gave me the features and functionality that I needed at a low price.

Fast, reliable, absolutely essential for anyone in the armed forces or DoD/fed work. I especially like that it folds neatly to take up less space during travel. I've never had any issues with the connection or anything.

I love how small but effective this is. Works like a champ and is compatible with iOS. Great to travel with for work.

Gets the job done

I need to use a PIV card for my work computers. This reader is fantastic -- it's small, it's light, and it's much much faster than the PIV readers supplied by my employer. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have some kind of option to "lock" in the open position. I have this reader at the end of a long USB extension cable and it hangs off my PIV card which hangs off my shirt (picture a necktie -- that kind of setup). If I move around too much, the folding part will start to pivot and close, just enough to lose the chip connection and make me have to open it start over. It's not horrible -- as I said, it has super speedy access -- it's just annoying. It would be nice if it "locked" open. Other than that, I love it and highly recommend it.

It definitely works with Mac.

I use this to have CAC capability on my Surface Pro. It works flawlessly, with no need to download drivers. Very satisfied.

This was useful but doesn't seem to perform as expected. For our money, we'd pony up the few extra dollars and purchase an advanced model as needed.
