Thumbs up all the way around.
This is one review I didn't want to have to write. I never wanted to be put in a situation where I would have to use this but I'm glad I had this product when I needed it. It's nice and compact with its own carrying case. It uses car battery clips instead of a cigarette lighter for power which I thought might be a problem since my battery is in the trunk. Sure you could just inflate the tire back there but no need, it would reach every tire on my Camry Hybrid. I like the work light and the integrated pressure gauge. And man is it quiet. No insane racket like I've seen with other models. And the hose screws into the tire stem so no need to hold it there while filling. That's a great touch. Overall, an outstanding product. It may not work for larger vehicles as the hose and wires are only so long, but like I said, it worked for my Camry and you can always fill the tire off of the vehicle at least enough to get you back on the road.

Great VFM product, small and usefull
I have the product for allmost a year now, it's has been in use 3-4 every month so far for a various cars. It always do the job fast and easy. It's very compact but still work well and inflate the tire in now time, it's also quite compare to the cheap ones, the tube is long for most of my needs.Love it!

Sounds powerful for a tiny thing the engine is metal. It takes up almost no space! Worked great for a truck and regular car! The only thing I will not like is putting it back in the tiny bag. It’s sized to perfection but when your in a hurry or if you are not patient to fold all the wires and cables back like factory you’ll have to get a different bag to just throw everything in there fast. Other than that great!! Haven’t tried it with my long bed truck if everything reaches good but will soon update! For now RECOMMENDING!

Overall very good, but with some drawbacks.
I give the Viair 87P portable compressor four stars instead of five because it has a few drawbacks. However, overall you should be well satisfied with the performance of the device. I am able to store the compact compressor with the spare tire in my vehicle's tire well, so I can tote it around in my car for emergencies without loosing valuable cargo space. The compressor and storage bag both appear well made. Actually, I was impressed that the compressor is such a solid little unit. It worked fine bringing four tires up to recommended inflation pressure. The well-machined brass hose tip screws onto the tire valve stem and forms a good seal. It is easy to turn the hose tip on and off using bare fingers. The on-off switch toggles smoothly.DRAWBACK - GAUGE IS UNNECESSARILY HARD TO READ: The 87P compressor is rated to 60 psi but has a 120 psi gauge, which makes it unnecessarily hard to read. I have a Viair 88P compressor too, which is rated to 120 psi. Both the 87P and 88P use the same pressure gauge. It's obvious to me that the manufacturer sticks the 120 psi gauge on the 60 psi compressor so they don't have to stock 2 different gauges at the factory. This is a case where manufacturing convenience/cost savings has taken precedence over value and usability for the buyer.DRAWBACK - HOSE IS FAR TOO SHORT: The integral 3-foot air hose is far too short in practical application unless the compressor is used with a small vehicle. However, extra 6-foot hose extensions can be purchased. I bought 2 extensions. The extension hoses easily attach to the compressor's 3-foot hose and to each other, yiedling a total 15-foot hose length. The compressor performs well with the 15-foot hose length. However, the extension hoses are just rubber, whereas the compressor's integral 3-foot hose is protected by a tightly woven fabric jacket. It's obvious to me that the reason the compressor's integral hose is so short is so the unit will fit in the storage bag. I view this as another clear case of manufacturing convenience and cost reduction taking precedence over value to the buyer/user. The extension hoses cannot fit into the storage bag with the compressor.DRAWBACK - DIM LIGHT: The compressor has a built-in light, but it is not particularly bright.DRAWBACK - CHEAP CLIPS FOR HOLDING INFLATION TIPS: The 3 inflation tips that come with the compressor are attached to the base with plastic clips molded to the base of the compressor. One of the clips was broken in the box when I received it. I removed all the tips from their clips and put them in a plastic baggie. With the plastic clips located on the base (which I view as a design flaw), the tips are bound to pop off and get lost when the compressor is placed on a hard surface or if it gets even a bit knocked around. Plus, the plastic clips are not what I consider durable.

Helpful
This is a great tool to keep in your car or truck, it is sturdy and inflates tires, mattresses, Beach balls, balloons and other inflatable items, since you can connect it directly to the battery terminals you have no issues with the electric system in your vehicle. It is light weight abs comes with a carrying case.

Good pump.
I tried this out yesterday and it worked pretty good. I deflated my tire, 30.5" , 245/70/17, to 20 psi, verified with my gauge. Hooked the pump up to the tire and the pump gauge read 20psi. Turned it on and timed it to fill the tire back up to 36psi. It took about 2 minutes and 40 seconds to fill it back up. The gauge on the pump reads about 2-4 psi higher while it is filling the tire. When the gauge read 40psi, I turned off the pump and it read 36psi. Checked the tire pressure with my normal gauge and it read 36psi. Very impressed with the accuracy of the gauge and the filling time of the tire. Also a word of advice. The pump does get hot when filling the tire and for 15-30 minutes after. I think it was to run for 15 minutes, it could possible burn you. There is a warning stick on the pump.
