Excellent product
This pressure cooker is truly remarkable! I prepared a traditional Persian dish in it, and after two hours, the outcome was exceptional – noticeably different from using a conventional pan. It cooks significantly faster, however, please remember to adjust the water and cooking time accordingly. It is also remarkably easy to use, and it includes a five-year warranty – what more could one desire?Furthermore, it is crucial to ensure all steam has been released before opening the cooker. The reviews mentioning food everywhere are likely due to this oversight. Pressure cookers must not be opened until the steam has been completely vented by carefully lifting the pressure regulator slightly.

OK for one person cooking
I am upgrading my initial 3 star review as the awkwardness of the opening and closing procedure has eased with experience. A second criticism was in it's use as a pressure cooker/steamer function as it seemed too small to take a steamer basket. I have managed to buy a 14cm steamer insert that just abut holds enough veg for one helping and now confirm, in my opinion, that for one person it is a fast and effective when used as a steamer. However given the size of the top opening I don't feel a larger capacity version would enable steaming for more than one person. Perhaps it should be bought provided with a steamer basket to make provision for a greater capacity.

Perfect Size for Two — Reliable and Efficient
We recently upgraded to the Hawkins Hevibase 3.5L Pressure Cooker, and it's been a game-changer for our kitchen. As a couple, this size is just right — not too big, not too small. We can comfortably cook enough for two, with a bit left over for leftovers.Cleaning is straightforward, and the build quality feels solid. We've used it for everything from rice and lentils to curries, and it performs consistently well.Overall, the Hawkins Hevibase 3.5L Pressure Cooker has been a reliable addition to our kitchen, making meal prep quicker and more convenient.

Beware problems with induction!!
The media could not be loaded. Problems working with induction cooktop.Initially first time I cooked with it, no problems with induction however the next day it stopped making the magnetic connection with my induction cooktop and it randomly works or doesn't work. Keeps making this ticking sound as if it connects for a split second and disconnect. A big nuisance. My guess is the ferrous iron plate is too thin or it separated or something. Too easily damaged. And the centre part where the logo is, is not magnetic.Do not recommend for induction reliability. Also beware it's made of aluminium which is not hardy like steel and will corrode or pit with the wrong use, too hard to take care of for years. Can also leach aluminium in food if you don't follow it's care instructions

Excellent all round! From a new convert.
I bought this after a friend, who swears by one, recommended that I buy one. He said that where he grew up (in India) his mother would not cook things according to a timer but by the number of ‘whistles’ - in other words, the number of times that the pressure builds up enough for steam to be ejected out of the spout at the top. This Hawkins pressure cooker is the OG of pressure cookers - easy to use, well made and safe to use if you follow the instructions. I recently cooked the black lentil dal recipe from the Dishoom cook book and was able to reduce my cooking time down from 4 hours on a normal hob to around 30-5 mins with this pressure cooker. For those worried about it being unsafe, the mechanism is simple: it is a basically a saucepan with a lid that you clip on and lock into place with a rubber gasket to provide a seal. The lid has a hole in the top with a little chimney spout for the steam to escape. There is also an emergency pressure release valve in case the main one fails. To help maintain the pressure a small weighted cap is rested over the ‘chimney’ on the lid. This way, once the pressure inside exceeds the pressure exerted by the weight of the lid, steam erupts out in an energetic fashion. Make sure there’s liquid inside the cooker otherwise the ingredients will burn, but take care not to overfill it otherwise the hot liquid will jet out of the top and make a mess/ could hurt someone. The one thing I would say is that the manufacturer’s instructions advise not washing it in a dishwasher but I have found that if you put it in soak immediately after use, leaving it for a few hours if necessary, you won’t need a dishwasher.Hope this helps.

Read the instructions thoroughly
Heavy aluminium pot. This product is made in India, despite the US sounding brand name. With such a high level of vegetarianism in India, they know a thing or two about pressure cooking! The instruction/recipe booklet is very clear and is at pains to repeat key usage issues etc. However, my steam vent weight was very stiff to insert, and given that it's recommended to do this when steam is venting, I fear scalding is very possible! When "whistling" occurs (ie. pressure causes steam to vent) this is more forceful than any of the other 3 pressure cookers I've used over half a century. I found it quite alarming. One thing it seems confuses people is the "grid" which comes with it. Buried in the instructions are a couple of sentences explaining that it's to be used as a trivet -a spacer to raise some foods above the water level, so that they are steamed, rather than boiled. It also says that it can be used to keep a hot pot raised above a worktop that might otherwise get damaged. IT IS NOT TO BE PUT BETWEEN THE BURNER AND THE BOTTOM OF THE POT!I bought this because I'm going over to induction hob usage. The steel plate on the bottom looks a bit flimsy. Only time will tell if it will prove up to the job.
