Directions are worthless
First, this works great now, but it took a lot of tinkering to get it to work. Directions are not helpful at all. Since your reading this, I'll let you know how. I put the little tank in the freezer for several hours, then screw it in and put the big bottle upside-down higher than the little one. If you get it cold enough, it will take 1-2 minutes and Bob's your uncle.

Not an expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night
Propane, much like butane, sinks in the atmosphere, they call that a creeping gas because it stays low and spreads out. Inadvertently some atmosphere gets into the tanks when changing the connection. There is a valve on the bigger tanks that vents & it is opened when filling it. Liquid propane is pumped in & any air is vented. They stop filling when a bit of the liquid starts to exit the vent, then they close the vent and stop the pump. So the small tanks have basically a Schrader valve, like a tire has, on the top beside the threads. If one were to open that during the refill of the smaller 1lb tank, I think it would fill faster, require less of a temp difference, & make it more filled. I am buying one today and trying it, I have two to fill so I am doing the method in the ad first to give it the advantage of a tank with more in it. I will also weigh both and note their torch time. Same nozzle style torch, identical tanks, burns with only one setting. I feel like having atmosphere in with the LP, air would always be forcing the propane out, filling slower from resistance & ejecting LP while in use, shortening it’s work-time. Why does the professional, required to be certified mind you, open a valve? Why does the 1# bottle have a needle valve? It would have to be done carefully regardless of methodology. The process will take a few days, but I use torches a lot & will report my data forthwith.
