Theodosia and the Last Pharaoh by R.L.LaFevers
I purchased this book on Amazon.com for my Kindle. My Kindle was probably one of the best gifts I ever received. It is wonderful that I can purchase from Amazon for my Kindle and in a few minutes it has been down loaded and I am able to start reading. This covers my need for instant gratification.Theodosia is on the train heading for Cairo with he mother and her cat Isis. Her mother was not at all pleased about the cat comining along. Theodosia is busy writing a list of things she must do while in Egypt. There are various people she has to look up such as Major Harriman Grindle, head of the Brotherhood of the Chosen Keepers who lives in Cairo. She has made a sworn promise to Awi Bubu, the Egyptian magician she bacame friends in London. She gave him her solemn promise to return two powerful artifacts, the Orb of Ra and the Emerald Tablet, to the Wedjadeen. She has promised to help her mother find the Temple of Thutmos the lll. She despertly wants to find out more details about her birth. In the previouse book"The Eyes of Horus" she finds out she was not born in London. She is horrified, then she is thrilled because her parents tell her she had been born in Egypt. Oooh, that explains soo much!! Aside from learning about herself she was told by a realiable source that her grandfather was also a member of the Brotherhood of the Chosen Keepers. In the last book "The Eyes of Horus" she was witness to some amazing feats of her grandmother. She wonders why was she never told of such astonishing and impressive family history. She is both angry and proud. Now that she found the Major she can focus on locating one Dr.Quilings who is head of Brothers of the Chosen Keepers research and development. He is quite a character and a brilliant inventor. He will be one of who will protect her and she will need all the help they can give her. Furthermore, she will receive aid from some completely unexpected areas. The Wedjadeem will be one of her biggest challenges bur her ingenuity and allies who stand by her. Her other concern is avoiding the nefarious Serpents of Chaos. She will also meet an old nemesis in new disguise. Her enemies are crawling all over every place she goes. She is always on high alert. There are moments of comic relief that gives your nervous system a time out. As always, the dialogue she has with herself is witty, amusing, sometimes a bit caustic and ever entertaining. In Cairo she meets another raggamuffin sidekick who is astute, street smart and above all loyal. She becomes a bit closer to her mother as she accompanies her to several dig sites. She also sees her mom from a different perspective. She abserves her asan archeologist and sees first hand just how competetive they are and the prestige involved when a new find is discovered. She loves her cat, Isis, very much and finds much comfort in her. In her moments alone digging around while in Karnac she accidently finds a hole in the ground and is undecided as to whether she should enter but Isis jumps in without any hesitation so she follows. What she finds takes her breath away.Theodosias's efforts to find people and places takes her down dark alleyways, claustrophobic hiding places, races against time, encounters with evil people and very dark magic. So many times she feels the air heavy and oppressive with so much black magic and evil curses.I loved this book and highly recommend it to readers of all ages. It keeps the adrenlien goingand the reader on the edge of his (her) seat.Bookwormetc Dorothy Dempsey

A magical adventure
I have greatly loved reading the adventures of Theodosia. She is a very clever and resourceful young girl that any child can relate to. I have enjoyed reading this series with my nieces and nephews and they have looked forward to each new book. I am sad for it to have ended with this book and would have loved to read more of Theodosia's adventures. I hope one day that may become a reality.

Really Sorry Series is Ended :(
First of all, I usually read Grim Dark which is about 180 degrees from these Theodosia stories, I'm also male & many decades older than 11. Despite that I really like these Theodosia stories. She refuses to be a victim, and is smart and tough. The stories rarely revert to "cute" tropes and the action character development is very good. In these times of great socio-political uncertainty, Theodosia is very relaxing and entertaining to read. I'd really like to see more Theodosia stories in the future.

Just adore this series!
I truly adore this series. Ms. Fevers voice is so perfect! I feel completely transported to this version of victorian England (& Egypyt) that it is miraculous. But I do have one teensy little gripe. Okay it is more than teensy, I wish that as much attention were paid to the Kindle version as I feel certain is given to the print copy. In this book there are numerous references to Nectanebo the Third. Only in the Kindle version it becomes Nectanebo ill because of the manner that the roman numeral is rendered. There are also several formating errors where words are squeezed together. On a brighter note the black & white illustrations are beautifully rendered on the device.

I've enjoyed the whole series...can't wait to read them to my daughter!
I've read all of the Theodosia books and I was very excited to read this last book. It feels like the series has come to an end, but I am secretly holding out for Theodosia to grow up and marry one of the young boys in her exciting adventures! Haha! The books are incredibly easy to read and they are fun to exaggerate. I definately plan on reading this series to my daughter (currently 2 years old) when she gets a little older. I'm sure she will love the adventure as much as I did. The author has done a great job of grasping the innocence of Theodosia while also making her whimsy and reliably 11 years old. Read this series for an easy and exciting read for the young ones and the young at heart.

A book for anyone who loves kids and their creative abilities, even though stretched into the implausable it sits up and snarls
Theodosia is such a precocious child of eleven years old. LaFevers gives us insight into a child's mind with the mix of her secrets, the indulgence of busy parents and the powerful forces she has to deal with. While very child-like and yet thoughtful she outwits her antagonists in many dangerous situations. I have read most of her books and find the imagination strong, yet believable even among all the magic only she seems to understand. The illustrations seem to fit the character and bring her into focus as well. For those who love kids, this is a winner. Though I am an elderly adult in my eighties I enjoyed every one of her books. It is great to have such stories that avoid sexual insults and horrific carnage that seems so dominate these days.

Well-written series
This is the fourth book in R.L. LaFevers' Theodosia Throckmorton series and currently the last in the series, though there is some indication that a fifth book may be on the horizon. These books rely heavily on each other and should be read in the order in which they were published. This book takes the series to somewhat of a closure but simultaneously opens several new lines of questions that will hopefully bring about several additional books or possibly prequels. It is a well-written series that deserves more attention from the author.4 STARS
