Hidden Gem in Central Europe...
The Czech people were the victims of years of empire-making (and breaking) in Central Europe. Most recently, what is now the Czech Republic suffered under first Nazi and then Communist tyranny. Today, the Czech Republic embraces both its long past and its bright future. Rick Steves has the important details in this new travel guide.Visitors are fortunate that the capital city of Prague somehow escaped destruction in the World Wars. As the author points out, Prague is a vibrant mixture of old and new, with the world's largest castle and a variety of fascinating museums. The outlying towns and villages of the Czech Republic have their own charm. As with other Rick Steves guides, read the whole thing before making your plans. There is lots of useful advice on where to go, how to get there, and what to see. The guide also includes the necessity information for traveling to and around the Czech Republic, including dining and lodging. The text includes lots of maps and diagrams, pictures, and a tear-out map at the back. Very well recommended to the enterprising traveler.

Great Travel Guide
Rick told us what to see, where to stay and where to eat. His suggestions were great and saved us time and money. One thing he failed to say was that the trams were free if you are over age 65. Use his guide for a great trip.

Print was very tiny and pages super thin -few tore easily
I love Steve’s books. I usually get from my sister ( when she’s finished with a trip or at my awesome huge local library. Sometimes I buy new, which was the case since this was a brand new update .We were sticking to just Prague. There was soooo much information that I found it hard to pick what to read . I was overwhelmed. What I did try to find to read … I could not find: thrift shops , consignment stores, second hand stores…. Practically nothing.Vegan places to either eat or ones that had vegan options… NOT VEGETARIAN, but vegan.Food stores near our air bnb.Better information on how to get your VAT tax back and how to determine if a store has to offer VAT paperwork , who to contact about VAT with questions .Maps being in black and white in tiny sections on the tiny pages were fairly useless unless you had a magnifying glass .We took side trips that were suggested, and could not find details about restaurants when there. So this gave some specific information about some things : wine, beer, handful of mom and pop hotels … but very little in many other areas .I was disappointed. Probably could have just used the older book and not purchased the updated version.

Visiting Prague in 3 months, Rick Steves guide is an excellent pre-trip planning tool written in plain English and organized in a logical manner. Definitely prefer Rick Steves guides over competitor options.
