Sony WF-1000XM5 Truly Wireless Bluetooth Noise Canceling Headphones - Silver (Renewed)

The packaging wasn't great, but the earbuds are amazing! At first when I used them they sounded terrible and were having some sort of syncing issue with each other and was worried I got a faulty product. After messing with the app for a little (switching the buds to prioritize sound quality, switching off multi device pairing, turning the up scaler on) they started work more as expected. They are the best earbuds I've ever experienced. Sound quality is excellent. Noise canceling is superb. The longevity of the earbuds is unknown as of now but Im loving them right now

Further edit, cutting score again since it has a continuous issue where sound quality degrades after 2-3 hours on W10. Slowly gets glitchier and glitchier. Some sort of buffer issue in the firmware, probably. Not something I've encountered with any of several other wireless earbuds I've tried. Edit: Leaving the lower part of the review up in case anyone is having a similar problem with them. The inner fit is everything. Turned out I just needed to get third party XL sized earbud tips in order to get a good airtight seal, which let the ANC actually perform. With that solved, they perform pretty much on par with the XM4s, but are much lighter and easier to wear. Old review: Ok performance for an ANC earbud, but is it worth the price? Well, its ANC is significantly worse than its older sibling, the XM4. It seems to do best at blocking in the 100-400Hz range, but has the most woefully poor low bass blocking I've ever heard, even for budget ANC earbuds. Sound quality is alright, but not enough to warrant the price tag. Overall, not worth it.

First, my disclaimer. I did purchase a refurbished unit as I did not want to spend $320 for new earbuds. Nevertheless, these were still not cheap. My previous ear buds (EarFun Air Pro 4) had died after about 6 months of medium use (2-3 times a week for 3-4 hours). I did not get any response from their customer service and decided to try a different brand. For the time they worked, I did like the EarFun Air Pro unit ... though the ear foam inserts were not truly ideal for my ears. Nevertheless, they performed well and were only $65. After looking an the options, wireless charging was a must ... which did not leave many choices to select from. I ordered the Bose Quiet Comfort and these Sony units to try and determine which one was best. Best for audio, Best for Noise Cancelling and best for fit. The Sony units did not fit my ear well. I needed an intermediate size that did not com with the unit. For me, that is OK ... IF ... the sound was good. I could always purchase replacement rubber foams. Unfortunately, the sound on this unit was just downright atrocious. Maybe it is because the unit was refurbished, maybe that is how it was designed. At this point, I am simply disappointed and have already packaged it for return one hour after receiving it. Maybe a new unit works better. I am not willing to spend the money or time to find out.

Awesome product, nice quality and performance

These sound great - but the ANC seems to rely very heavily on sound isolation, had to use ear tips large enough to be painful to get decent-ish ANC. It might just be me (sensitive ear canals?). That said, 'aware' mode really good - for the few minutes I could stand to have those ear tips jammed in my ear canals. Also, these were super slippery. I'm sure I'd lose one sooner than later. Ended up with the Bose QC (2024). As good ANC as these with those killer ear tips, not quite as good 'aware' mode - but I can wear them an entire plane trip.

I bought these as refurbed (excellent). I wasn’t going to sink any more money given the battery issues of the previous model - mine died after approx 2 years (rhs would die more quickly until it would only last about 20 minutes). Sony sent a direct offer on the app about a discount on the new ones only if you posted back your old buds - offer a low discount on full retail and put a hurdle on completing - no thanks Sony!!! I bought some jabra elite 10 in ears after reading all the reviews - what a huge mistake. Sound state even after adjusting was awful with tinny bass and the most woeful of buds - none of them got a seal and the dumbest bud design ever so you would have to buy very specific aftermarket buds - in short a load of crap So I took the plunge and got the new Sony buds and glad I did - sony is night and day versus jabra The soundstage and bass is superb Now I just hope the battery lasts longer than the previous one - still as I paid less than $160 I’m not as concerned this time

Just got the Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds. Setup took a while - you’ve got to use the app or you’re wasting your time. Once I had them setup I thought, “well, not bad but I’ve heard better (like my Sennheiser headphones). Then I came across this little hidden setup called “best connection or best sound quality” that changes the Bluetooth codec for your needs. This was a total game changer. When I changed over to best quality the sound was AMAZING! So much detail! It felt like you are on stage with the artist. You can hear each of Armik’s fingers touch the guitar strings. Nuances in each vocalist’s tone is clearly expressed. Ever felt like you were looking over Taylor’s shoulder while she was singing? Background triangles are clear and precise. Japanese drums are full, solid, and clear. Dare I say this was better than my Sennheiser headphones? I’ll just have to test them out for a couple of years to be sure.

Package dispatched DHL tracked with no issues. Well protected within the packaging. Item itself was exactly as described in perfect condition no blemishes or issues. The earbuds are smaller than the old WF-1000XM4. So far very comfortable and light. Customisable equaliser options and voice assistance. Noise cancelling has always been my favourite feature of these buds and they give my BoseQC 35’s a good run for the money and are less bulky for the commute/gym etc.
