Excellent
Long enough to be useful. I previously bought a short one but this one allows better space to organise both hands on the handles

Does exactly what it says on the tin!
It's a workman's plane, it's by stanley, it's not exciting but it's precision quality

Stanley Sb3 Single Blade Plane 1 12 033
Very pleased with this plane. It lives up to the Stanley quality and performs well. It's also a good price.

Useless out of the box, but grand...
So straight out of the box this thing is completely useless. It is essential to spend a good while sharpening the blade. Once you have it shaving hairs it will start to work. Next thing is the way of adjusting the depth. It seems like it should be straight forward, with the little twisty knobs, but it's not. To be honest the twisty knobs do nothing. Basically you need to open the middle one, manually position the blade, and just lock them all in place once you are happy with the depth and squareness. It's finicky. Finally, if this is you first plane, it's not the same design as the standard Stanley planes. Higher quality planes can be adjusted much easier than this and have more components. Basically only buy this if you want to try out planning. It will do you to get your head around a few concepts, but you will immediately want a better one.

Good Quality
This plane is well made, its not made in england any more, but still of decent quality. The handles could have been made of higher quality plastic, but not really a complaint, as its not an expensive item. Good value.

Cheap stuff
You basically get a planner body with a completely blunt knife, the knife needs proper sharpening not just a touch up,if you are not good at setting up tools then you should avoid this completely, setting up the knife is a nightmare if you want it perfectly accurate, just spend 30-40 pounds more and buy a good one, that's what i should done myself......

For the price, this is very good. Like any new plane, you have to sharpen the blade before use. You also need to make sure that you even the base surface of the plane so that you have an even surface. This normally only has to be done once in the lifetime of the plane.

Blade adjustment allows too much play. Set it to hold down and it will slide up. Set it to hold up and it will slide down. Surely this is design, not build. Dull blade out of the box.
