We added these to our gas fire pit (on top of the lava stones that came with it) and it looks great! A much more modern look than the "rugged" lava.

Wanted some black lava rocks for the bottom of my firepit. Didn't want them to be too small because it would make cleanup a mess. These 3-5" are just the right size and I love the tumbled smooth look. They arrived fast and were a fair price

Lava rock, will survive fire after fire after fire. I am going to use them for camping on my Wolf and Grizzly portable fire pit to cook on. Might be too porous for that, but we'll see. Meat should be fine, just nothing runny obviously. They came in a box, wrapped with bubble pack. That bit I'm a little curious about, seeing how they *are* rocks and there is no worry about breakage. Perhaps just to keep them from shifting in the box I suppose. At any rate, they were well packed in the box. They arrived in side of a heavy duty plastic bag sealed at both ends. If I find they won't work for that idea (too porous) I'll use them on my gas grill! They'll have a use one way or another.

It was exactly what I needed for my stove

I used these on top of black glass beads for a contemporary look. They seem to work fine with the heat with no smell or discoloration. I think I'd like a few more maybe a bit larger.

They look fantastic, but after 10 minutes of direct flame a rock exploded and a 1" chunk hit me in the chin about 10 feet away. Thankfully it wasn't my eye and nobody was hurt! Edit: After 40 additional minutes they seem stable and no more have exploded. Thermal camera reads the temp at 1,032 degrees. Just bake them a while before you actually decide to be anywhere near them.
