Marathon may be twice as expensive as the competition, but it is twice the clock and company
The old adage of "you get what you pay for" is quite true with Marathon. While they are not the least expensive option for atomic clocks, they ARE the best value. I have owned a couple of different clocks in the past from different manufacturers (La Crosse being my most recent purchase before Marathon) and I can assure you that Marathon is an outstanding value and here's why;1) The packaging includes two manuals (different languages) a catalog and quick start guide WITH their phone number encouraging you to call with ANY questions. Now the company is based in Canada, but they went to the trouble to get a US toll free number which you can call anytime.2) They give you batteries (and they are name brand batteries) with your clock. This is a big thing since the clock takes four batteries and the remote sensor take s two. In these days where companies are often removing perks to increase profit margins, it is nice to see a company thinking about the customer's convenience over their profits. AND they warranty the batteries for a year, so if they die on you, trhey will replace them, who does that anymore?? Amazing, right!3) They actually answer their phone. I had a question about a symbol being displayed on my clock and called in, got a real receptionist who was able to transfer me to a real tech (Alan, who was great to talk with and thanked me for my business). No auto attendant, no voicemail, real people! After dealing with the pains of trying to get help from La Crosse over the past many years, I will never go back to La Crosse.Admittedly, I have not run the clock for years and years yet (as I have with various La Crosse models), but so far I am completely satisfied with the value (even at twice the price of a comparable La Crosse clock) and impressed with the build quality and customer support offed by Marathon. I'll try to remember to post an update at the one year mark, but so far Marathon has knocked the ball out of the park.

Almost Returned It But Alas I Didn’t
I ALMOST returned this clock. It took 3 days for the atomic feature to FINALLY connect. I’m not sure what did it but every time I hit the button to sync the time during the daytime it just wouldn’t connect at all! I read that around 2 am the clock automatically syncs with the time however it never did and I wasn’t about to stay awake until 2 am to try and connect this clock. So in my last hope I stayed up until midnight. Hit the sync button on the back and went to bed. When I woke up in the morning I was shocked to see that the atomic feature had connected and STAYED connected. Finally the time was set down to the second! It matched with the time on my phone which made me happy! Now from what I have read other reviewers say is that this clock might be short lived. Hopefully not because I appreciate this clock now and want to keep it for a very long time so we’ll see if anything changes in the coming months. As for the temperature readings it seems to be working just fine. I hung the outdoor temp reader right under the edge that sticks out of our roof. This way it is protected from the rain and is in the shade so that the sun isn’t burning on it. So far it seems to be working fine and accurate.

Very pleased!
I was very excited to get this thermometer and setting it up the first time was a piece of cake. I've had the unit for a week so cannot rate the durability yet. The display is quite large and the instructions recommend placing the unit by a window so options were limited for me. Overall. I'm quite happy with my purchase.

Needs Illumination
Very pleased so far! Set-up was quick & easy, accurate temp readings, easy to read etc. The time is easy to read from any distance. However, other data must be read up close with a light source. Would be nice to have the option of low or high illumination or back lighting, as available on similar items (like my ancient digital clock radios!). The data is exactly what pertains to me, as I don't care about humidity or the rain in Spain. If not for the lack of illumination, I'd definitely give it a High-5, 2-Thumbs-Up!

as discribed
I bought this for my parents because they always that "every day feels like Saturday when you're retired". They have missed a few doctor appointments for forgetting what day of the week it is. They now have this sitting in their living room so they can easily see it and I haven't heard them ask "what day is it" since giving it to them.

Relieved mine works.
Was hesitant to purchase after seeing the negative reviews, but glad I took the chance. Put batteries in at around 6pm and waited for time to automatically set, but nothing. Woke up next morning and it still had the wrong time. Came back from work after 6pm and the correct time was finally there.I could only put the outdoor sensor in a spot 30 feet away, where the signal would have to go through the metal frame of a patio glass door and two walls. I had doubts that it would be able to transmit back to the clock, but it actually worked! It’s a good-looking clock that is easy to read in a room with normal lighting; not too bright or dark. I also found the buttons and controls easy to use.I’ve only had it for a month and if it continues to perform as it should, it would be well worth the $50.

Atomic must mean Nuked
Bought this because was good layout easy to read, had all the automated features (DST, Atomic). So set it up gets great signal for the atomic aspect of the clock, month and half later losses its mind. Set the unit up again, all set to go again month and half later mind lost yet again. So figure the atomic part is causing this thing to go wack-a-doodle. Turn that feature off, figure if it can keep time etc... OK on it's own I'm OK with that. Two months later every thing seems OK except the "DAY" is now off by 2 weeks so, go to set the correct day and not able to adjust Month/DAY, have to remove batteries in order to get into Month/Day adjust mode. If you enjoy having to set the clock etc every few months this baby is for you, If you are buying this clock to set and forget, then I would forget about buying this unit because it is just incapable of keeping time etc... Too bad because stylistic a great layout, keeping time forget it.
