Reliable automated dog feeder for larger dry dog food-gets the job done
Our dog keeps getting up earlier and earlier to be fed in the morning, and it was really disrupting our sleep. I had tried one of these machines in the past and returned it within 5 minutes because it couldn't connect to Wifi. When my sleep was so disrupted it was affecting my daily functioning, I decided it was time to find an automatic dog feeder that actually works. This one does.Thank you, Amazon, for offering a wide selection of items and having detailed reviews--which is why I'm writing one like this now, approximately after a month of usage. All of these automated feeders are Made in China (MIC) and around the same price point, so how do you differentiate? The biggest thing IMO is to NOT buy one that requires connection to WiFi. The 2.4 vs 5 GHz requirement is a deal-breaker in any household with wireless internet. I also don't need or care about a camera or app: the fewer moving parts, the more reliable. Next, food size capacity is critical. There is one moving part, and if it gets clogged, you're screwed. This brand specifically handles up to 15 mm diameter food, which is the size of my small/medium dog's dry food. So far, it has dispensed without any problems.Programming the feeding times and amounts is fairly straightforward. The directions are clear enough (see below). You can also program a voice 'call'; though the sound quality isn't great, it works. The unit has a fairly long extension cord or requires 3 D batteries (I used three old NiMH rechargeables whcih seem to work). The food storage bin holds at least one week's worth of food for our 25 pound dog. It has a lock on the top lid to prevent the dog from breaking in.The machine works very well so far. My dog, however, remains very confused and intimidated by it. Breaking her Pavlovian ritual of waking us up to be fed breakfast, or barking to be fed her second meal, has been much more difficult to do--but that's not the machine's fault!I give this 5 stars because it works as described, and reliably. I would really give 4.5 starts becauseseveral simple aspects could be readily improved (a common complaint for all things MIC): Make the icons visible on the buttons (they are almost invisible and require either a flashlight or looking at the instructions each time to figure out which buttons are which); write directions in non-broken English; and make the food bowl connection to the machine with metal rather than plastic, which can easily break. I don't need or care about WiFi connection, app or camera as described above, so those are actually positive omissions.

Fantastic feeder! Very easy to control with phone app.
This is a fantastic product. I've been using it for like a year now, no issues. The battery lasts like a month. I get warnings on my (android) phone when the battery or food is low. I can schedule automatic feeding with the app very easily, controllable at 1/24 cup granularity. And I can feed manually any amount, any time, anywhere, from my phone.

Fab feeder, but not great battery
I love this feeder! I love the simplicity of it and the app is great. I love that everything is so easy to clean!!! I love that when there was an issue, the company was clear and communicative about the network problem and assured there would be steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again.Unfortunately, after just a few months of owning, the battery depletes after just a few days of charge. It works fine if it’s plugged in. It would probably last through a power outage for a while, but I don’t trust it anymore. Will just keep it plugged in. Even still, I give it four stars because I still love it.

Not great, but not terrible.
On the one hand, the functionality of this auto-feeder is pretty good - it dispenses in units of 1/24 of a cup, so it's pretty versatile. And it seems pretty reliable (at least over the first week). Filling it is easy and it includes a battery backup, which gives some peace of mind.On the other hand, I have a great deal of networking experience and have used a lot of IoT things in my life. This one was the most difficult to get hooked to our network. I actually had to make an entirely separate SSID just for it. No other network-connected thing I've ever had has required me to go to such lengths. Also, their app is chock full of upsell nonsense. All I want is for it to let me set a feeding schedule and for it to notify me if the food gets low or it gets jammed. I don't need them to try and sell me pet health management nonsense. That's why I have a vet.
