So interesting, I would love to read more books like this.
You don't have to be into science to enjoy this book. It is a really accessible and interesting book about scientists who self-experimented.It kind of reminded me of a school textbook but I didn't think that was a bad thing at all. I'm extremely impressed with all the researching the author did. Some of it was shocking but it was just so interesting. I think what made it so interesting was the fact that it focused on more than the experiments; it focused on the people behind the experiments and that's why I liked it so much. I personally think that the scientists that self-experimented were really brave and passionate. I can understand how people think those scientists were stupid because they were risking their lives but I think that they had good intentions. My favourite chapter was the chapter on Marie Curie. She accomplished so much, what a woman! The hardest thing to read about was the bits on animal testing. It made me really sad. Some of the pictures just didn't do it for me. They looked like careless drawings but then again I don't know when those pictures were drawn so they could be super old.I would definitely 100% recommend this to everyone. The chapters are so easy to read and the stories are very entertaining.

REAL medical scientists tell their story.
Sometimes medical progress comes from self experimentation by the actual scientists. The story is rivetting and makes you think about some others of making medical progress, and why it's sometimes too slow...

Fascinating anecdotes
Guinea Pig Scientists contains nine chapters, each on a different scientist who made a difference by plaicng themself in harm's way to varying degrees. The book is hardly in depth, but it covers the most important aspects of each scientists methods and what was learned from them. This would be a great book to use to get adolescents interested in scientific inquiry. It is an engaging read, and the gross out factor will bring in even reluctant readers. Be warned: not all of the scientists survive their experiments.

A wonderful introduction
Guinea Pig Scientists is a wonderful introduction for putting a face and an exciting story behind a particular science. I expect many children (and adults) to go read further about different topics or the scientists because their appetites have finally been whetted.

short, easy and fun: stories which prove people are crazy
This well designed book is aimed at junior high/high school readers, but is really good for anyone interested in science and scientists. It treats, with copious quotations and illustrations, the many scientists that used themselves as test subjects, injecting themselves with diseases, using themselves as crash test dummies, breathing and handling all kinds of dangerous substances, sometimes with fatal consequences. We all benefit from their courage (and foolhardiness?) in the interest of science. Interesting, and well told. Very positive.
