My advice is to pass on this
This book is ridiculous. The idea intrigued me -- a self-described bilingual and bi-cultural Mexican politician writing about US-Mexican relations. The problem is, he gets a lot of his facts wrong and his source material is questionable. He also jumps between centuries -- often on the same page and sings the praises of people like Santa Anna, Cortez, and Porfirio Diaz, who went into his state room and cried when he was forced into exile at the beginning of the Mexican Revolution. I almost lost it when he described the beaver as a "fury little animal with a stubby tail" -- and left out the real politics behind the Texan Revolution in both Mexico and the United States. This is a good example of how not to write history.
