Practical ways to change my reactions and thoughts.
It is practical and shows how to identify reactions and change them bit by bit. I felt I was taking action just by scanning through the book. The pics are so helpful that I was picking up tips just by glancing through the cartoons.Love this book! After years of CBT this really helps put the stuff I learnt into practice. No more digging out the paper templates to look at core beliefs. Nope, I just open the book, look at cartoons see the alternative thoughts and take them with me.

Wonderfully helpful
I have found this book extremely helpful in aiding clients understanding of healthy and unhealthy emotional states . The clarity of the approach helps clients to really "get" the relationship between their thoughts and their feelings and behaviors , other CBT self help books out there take chapters to explain the connection; this book explains it in a few pages and is therefore really practical. I have recommended it to many of my clients and will continue to do so .

Really helped to change my thinking patterns
I have found this book incredibly helpful and practical, as not only does it help you to identify unhealthy thoughts and beliefs but gives you a positive strategy for dealing with them, and helps build your resilience and confidence. I liked the process (though it may seem a bit tedious at first!) of exploring and challenging your beliefs e.g. starting from the belief that 'I should not have failed' you get to a healthy and postive statement such as; 'I would like not to have failed... it is difficult, but I can bear it... I am fallible and I accept myself' (edited version!).Having repeated the exercise thoroughly for a number of beliefs (I did one for each of the eight chapters/themes) I now find that I am saying to myself; 'This is difficult but not unbearable, bad but not awful, and I can handle this'. You need to put in a bit of effort and make the time but it is so worth it, to reduce the number of times you beat yourself up, and to increase your confidence and calmness!

This book breaks down a complex concept into simple steps that are easy to follow. It works precisely because it is repetitive, helping you to implement new healthy thinking habits and beliefs. The clarity of the book makes this process straight forward. It cuts through all the waffle and is a helpful guide when trying to adapt to new and healthy ways of thinking. The illustrations are an excellent tool for identifying negative emotions.

Good pictures but overly repetitive.
I like this book for the pictures, but agree with others that it is very repetitive.

A brilliant book particularly for anyone new to CBT
A great book easy to read and the pictures really do help 'tell the story'. I would recommend this to anyone,looking for more information in this area or to give as gift to any possible cynics- they may be converted by a book like this which is practical and easy to understand.

Useful and helpful
Just started a counselling course and this this helps to put into context the new language and comprehension.
