The base is heavy but not super heavy, and it’s sturdy so you don’t have to worry about knocking it over, and the shade is simple in style and finish, and because it’s not attached to the top of the lamp, if you bump the shade, you just shift it back into place. I was unsure if I would like the switch being on the cord vs the lamp, but I can tell you, especially for a bedside lamp this works well. It arrived missing the part that attaches the shade to the base. It is designed in such a way that you cannot just interchange one from another lamp. Apparently amazon cannot get me the part either so I have to return via UPS and wait weeks for a refund. Was not able to reach anyone at Nourison customer service. VERY disappointing! Would not recommend just based on the chance you may or may not receive all of the parts you need for assembly. It will be a hassle to return.
