This tells me what the approximate state of the charge is because the current goes down as the battery approaches full charge. When the current goes to zero, you know the charge is complete. I have a number of devices where the flashing charge indicator LED is so hard to see and flashes so slowly that it's a pain to try to determine the state of the battery charge.
