Iranian comedy drama, highlighting the struggle for women's rights. A group of young girls, obsessed with football, come up with an audacious plan to infiltrate the national stadium in Tehran - where women are banned from attending matches - in order to watch the World Cup qualifying game. Disguising themselves as men, the girls sneak into the stadium, but have to dodge the soldiers monitoring the crowds, as well as deal with unforseen problems such as the lack of women's bathrooms.

This is another one of those films which probably wouldn't have received such positive reviews if it hadn't been made in a foreign country whose film industry remains largely unexplored by western audiences. Yes, it is entertaining, and it does provide an insight into some interesting aspects of Iranian culture, but far better movies have been produced in the region in my opinion. If you're interested in low-budget/indie Iranian cinema you may also want to check out 'No One Knows about Persian Cats'.

Brendan Coyle in Swedish movie
Luckily you get used to reading the subtitles when Swedish is spoken. Brendan Coyle plays his rather sad part very well. Glad to see the film had a more or less happy ending.

Completely changed my perspective on Iranian Cinema
The film was incredible I recommend watching it to anyone with the ability. My copy was unfortunately region 4 (Oceania) so I did need to watch it using VLC but it was nonetheless a great piece of film.

An eye opener
If you consider Iran to be a world away from the UK and peoples experiences to be completely different then watch this film and enjoy the shared experience of womens rights and football.

Not really funny. Interesting to see how feisty the girls are in this situation but a bit dull overall.

offbeat and unusual film which scores many goals
A masterpiece of film making which i highly recommend. This is not the type of film one is used to. The plot of teenage Iranian girls attempting to attend an international soccer match is totally engrossing and will you have you on the edge of your seat until the very end which is totally unpredicted. A wonderful concoction of paradoxes, a film ostensibly about soccer but no soccer is seen,an ostensible comedy but tragedy and serious undertones are always present,a treatise on feminism but men's points of views are not totally rejected and a film about modernity but ancient mores and customs ferment under the surface. This film is thought provoking and enlightening without being preachy or sanctimonious, i highly recommend it to viewers of all ages and backgrounds.I would rank this film now as one of my all time favourites.
