These are just like the sun-dried tomatoes I have grown up with in ...
These are just like the sun-dried tomatoes I have grown up with in the deep south of Italy. The salt is used for preserving, the packaging does not offer instructions however, in general, sun-dried tomatoes must be soaked to remove most of the salt before using. They can be soaked for few hours, or blanched by placing in boiling water, remove from flame and soak for at least an hour, then rinse again in combo of water and white vinegar (50/50 solution). The tomatoes will NOT disintegrate in boiling water like fresh tomatoes do.Taste them after soaking, if they are still too salty for your taste, change the water and soak some more until they reach your taste level. After the soaking process they are ready for use. Typically they are jarred, with spices added (ex. dry oregano, fresh mint, garlic, hot pepper flakes) and covered with extra virgin olive oil - seal tight, wait a week before use and ENJOY!Additionally, these are very reasonably priced!

TERRIBLE
I love sun dried tomatoes, so I decided to buy a pound of it. Unfortunately, when I received the bag and tried to eat it I was totally shocked. The tomatoes were as hard as ROCKS! I could even chew a tiny piece. I put my hand in the bag and tried to find at least one that wasn't in such a deplorable state. However, they were all the same. So, I tried to return the bag but the seller has a No Return Policy. The strange part was when I first placed the order, I tried to cancel in less than an hour but cancelling was no longer accepted. I believed the seller just wanted to unload these damaged and rotten tomatoes and receive the money in spite of the fact that they were totally non edible. Shame on them. Please be aware of this seller!!!!!

diarrhea, mold, questionable.
First day i ate these tomatoes, the next day i had massive diarrhea. the only thing I added to my diet was these tomatoes and they are so salty that i couldn't tell if they are spoiled or not. I couldn't taste any mold, but saw some tomatoes that look different from others (black and white mold). i had diarrhea for 6 days now! (it's watery stool, not loose stool, there is a difference you know).i've bought raw foods from this company before (nuts, seeds) and they were fine, but dehydrated tomatoes can be dangerous because if they are just slightly wet, they can get mold easily!i don't recommend this product. You can get dehydrated tomatoes at kroger.

You have to treat these right
These are not bright, red dried tomatoes, but they are great value for the money. They need to be soaked and rinsed before using. I like them because they're preserved with salt, not sulfur dioxide. For this reason, you should not think of them as instant, but rather preserved, and needing some treatment before adding them to recipes. I have used them, chopped, in pasta dishes, where they add texture and flavor. I soak them twice in a pot of water that was brought to simmering -- in between the two- to three-hour soaks, I rinsed them under running water. After this preparation, (again, these are not "instant"), they can be sauteed in olive oil with onions, garlic, celery, and green pepper. I've also added the soaked, sauteed tomatoes to soups -- be sure to use an unsalted or low salt broth. Definitely a slow food.

Overwhelming amount of salt :(
Although thrilled i found organic and unsulfured, I agree that the salt is overwhelming. I did find soaking them to make them more palatable but I wish I didn't have to prepare them in advance. I just wish there was some sort of explanation on the packaging to explain what to do. Soaking also softens them quite a bit so keep that in mind. But ya- not just like regular salty, i'm talking outrageously salty. Other than that, they are yummy.

The sun dried tomatoes do not look like the ones on front of package
The sun dried tomatoes do not look like the ones on front of package. The sun dried tomatoes in our package are black. Not red as pictured. We used them in a recipe of sautéed green beans, the tomatoes and goat cheese sprinkled on top. This dish is usually my favorite of all things to eat. However the sun dried tomatoes’ poor quality downgraded the green bean recipe. The tomatoes were and are dissapointing! Even tasted burnt. They go in the pan at the end of the recipe. We did not burn them. Again, we didn’t like. Poor quality. Not tasty and difficult to chew, so tough !

Salt.. salt and more salt
Would be great.. if there was something other then salt.. in this bag of tomato's.. wasted money..It's ashame as I love their other products.. purchased 100s of $$ on it. This.. just wound up in the trash.. and I eat tomato's like apples.. so that's gotta tell you something. If you didn't take the other reviews seriously maybe you will take mine. Take your money go to the store and buy tomato's.. cook in the oven at 100 degrees.. cause you will be able to make a million times better then this crap..

Overall poor product.
Alarming warning on the label about this product "consuming thisProduct can expose you to chemicals including lead." The product is poor at best. Over dried out. Tough, even difficult to cut with a sharp knife. No star at all if that was an option.

Must prepare!
I was super bummed when I got these and ate one... lol. I read the reviews as I was wondering how they were rated so high if so salty! I came across one very helpful one that stated you must prepare these! Oops. So put in water and bring to boil, remove once comes to boil and let sit in water for an hour. Then rinse. What a difference. Very thankful I didn’t send them back! They were fantastic in my salad tonight! Thank you to that person (and others) who wrote that tip out! So I hope this will help someone out too :)

Excellent product
These are just like the excellent sundried tomatoes that I have bought previously at the markets in France and Italy. High quality and no sulfur chemicals. Just make sure to soak them in hot water prior to use to lower the salt content.

The least salty; awesome flavour.
Do your own comparison; these contain a fraction of the sodium found in the other brands I've looked at and they have managed to maintain great flavour. Glad they're back in stock.

Easy way to make sun dried tomatoes in jar
Very good. Little darker in colour I would like. Salty. I don’t eat a lot of salt. Other than that very good. Using them to jar for in oil and basil
