Can the tray be used without a substrate e.g. floorboards.. can it be placed straight on to joists with a 500mm gap?

I bought the shower screen (glass) i have a shower tray. Think it would work in a wet room without a shower tray . Have no idea about placing straight onto joists or a gap , sounds interesting and might be interesting worth trying .
