Master container gardening with inspiration, planting ideas, and expert advice from Sarah Raven. Grow vibrant flowers in pots for stunning seasonal displays. Review: Glorious guide to Container Flowers - I’d been looking for an up-to-date guide for container gardening and always enjoy Sarah Raven’s tips. This book is beautifully put together with gorgeous photos and plenty of very practical advice. I like her writing style which adds a personal note and seeing the way she uses the pots in her own gardens adds to the impact. I especially like the way it’s set out in months which will help me plan out my schedule. It also gives great ideas for different colour combinations and a huge a ritual of flowers. My only minor disappointment is that she hasn’t included anything much on herbs or trees in pots - but it does say ‘Container FLOWERS for all seasons’ so I’m not taking off any stars! Review: Beautiful and Informative - My first Sarah Raven book and it certainly won't be the last! Every page is an explosion of colour and beauty as Sarah takes you through a month by month journey of her recommendations for flower filled pots. Don't be fooled into thinking this book is all style and no substance as Sarah gives plenty of information on each plant. If I were to pick any holes it would be that I'd love to see more examples of flowers for a semi-shaded location - but maybe that'll be the next book to come!

Inspiration for your own garden.
It’s a bit of a shop window for the on line business but that said, the online shop is a source for all the brilliant flower combinations - all of which have been trialled by the author. Plenty of great pics as well.

Wow…..packed full
This book is absolutely packed with information, inspiring ideas, advice and beautiful images. There is SO much to read it’s going to be a book you’ll go back to time and time again. Lots to take in so settle down with a very large mug of coffee and a comfy chair…..in the garden of course. Excellent value for money.

A year of beautiful pots
This is the most gorgeous book. I am a balcony gardner so only use containers. The planting suggestions and colour combinations are really inspiring and I've used them to decide on what goes in my containers this summer. I also love that the book is organised by months so looking for year round interest on the pots - this makes it easy.

No roses!!!
The book came poorly package and the corner damaged on arrival. Nice book, lots of pics and hints and tips for pots. Some unnecessary info about the author and her residence which might be of interest to some but I got the book for the info. I was disappointed by the lack of roses and other deciduous shrubs. All my roses are in containers but I don’t think she sells many on her website and so that might be why. She says it’s due to fungus problems in container roses but if well pruned in spring there’s less risk of this. Only little white pet rose by David Austin got a mention. I have that one but find others do a lot better in big pots. Loads on pelagoniums, tulips, dahlias. A section in pet safe plants would be nice. Helpful info on bulb planting and training climbing plants. Useful for beginners but misses some great container plants!

I'd rate myself as a reasonably decent gardener; strictly organic; and focused on bee-, butterfly-, bird-friendly natural plantings. Most gardening books are made for people with ground-based gardens. But increasingly people are living in apartments and townhouses with little or no garden space. That doesn't mean we can't garden--but rather we grow in containers instead. This book is full of guidance about growing everything from spring bulbs to roses to trees in containers, along with loads of gorgeous inspiration photos. While it's difficult to compost while gardening on a balcony or small terrace, there is other earth-friendly guidance that can be implemented there. I initially borrowed this book from my city library but as soon as I'd read the first chapter, I realised I need my own copy for ongoing reference (and inspiration).

A very useful book. While I find Ms. Raven's podcast a little grating, this book is inspirational and full of ideas for using pots in the garden to their full advantage. It is organized by month so that you can look ahead and, for example, think about what you need to do in October to have daffodils in March. Pots are a great way to keep constant colour in the garden and in the winter months, to even bring a little green indoors. While some of her plant suggestions are not widely available at local nurseries in the US, there are usually good substitutions to be found - and sometimes it is worth looking online and experimenting with something different.

I was worried that the book was written by someone in England and I live in the USA deep south, that I would not be able to replicate the tulips in a big pot. I planted a large planter of tulips in December, I had to guess and what after the first freeze would be for my location. They are on their way to appearing.
