It's a replacement bulb; they won't last forever, just a long time.
The unit works great, and my algae problems seem to have disappeared completely. It was easy to install, and I bought this extra lamp as they are not something you will find just anywhere light bulbs are sold. I was surprised that the UV light makes the plastic connections glow green in the dark like a pair of eyes. But it makes it easy to see that it is working.... The installation you see will keep all of the parts completely dry although it might not look like it.

five min install
I have two of these = one for each canister filter for my aquarium - connects between the canister filter and the water outlet in the aquarium - so after the water is filtered, the water tube connects to the housing for the filter to have a UV light and then on to the aquarium. This purchase is for the replacement bulbs - very easy to replace and the bulbs seem to last about six months of always on.

Fit our UV unit perfectly.
This was a perfect replacement for our UV sterilizer in our fish tank. Be careful when ordering, as many UV lights do not tell length of bulb.

Lights work great
These lights do a great job but they do burn out rather quickly. Both of mine burned out within a few weeks of receiving.

Not 12w
Not 12w, I ordered it twice, it is a 14w bulb. Says 14w right on the box and is about an inch longer than a 12w bulb.

These work well; and while I ordered 1, they come in a 2-pak, so having a spare is a nice bonus.
