Review: Full of Metal Techniques! - I purchased this book simply because I wanted to make a toggle clasp that worked. I found it on page 71, and it turned out well! The book is probably filled with almost every technique a jewelry maker might need. There are also quite a few tutorials near the back of the book. The pictures are clear and well done, making it easy to follow the instructions. There are some terms I was not familiar with because I believe the author was from Britain. For example, fretwork is more likely to be called piercing in the U.S. At the start of the hingeing tutorial, tubes are called knuckles, although the phrase tube cutter is also used. However, slight changes in vocabulary are not really bothersome. I would recommend this book highly as a compendium of metal techniques. Review: great book. - When I first received this book, it was very damaged. I had zero problem returning it and getting a new book. This is a great book. It discusses a lot of techniques related to creating your own jewelry. I can't wait to start utilizing the techniques learned in this book. Chasing, metal shaping, texturing, several techniques to cast your own pendants/beads, etc. It touches up on stone setting and filigree to give you the basics of how to do it. It's a great book for beginners or those looking to expand on techniques not yet learned. Great price for what you get.

valuable addition in the range of jewellery making;
in this field - the realm of jewellery-making hobbyists, it appears to be essential to be able to choose a wide range of literature that concerns the possibilities of the technique and design. This book is a valuable addition in this sense. The explications and examples are very adequate. Still I think that the value of this kind of books can now be increased by even more detailed and elaborate instructions, given the fact that many books now reach to the same level of descriptiveness and instruction-detail, so there is room for more indepth and detail information at this point.

Start here!
This book should be on the required reading list of anyone interested in working silver. A very comprehensive overview of the many facets of silver work is given here. Now if the author were to do a series of books going deeper into and listing projects highlighting the various techniques she introduces you to my library would be complete.

Silversmithing book for an old silversmith
I started studying to be a silversmith in 1969 so I've been at it a long time. This is an excellent overview of various techniques. The prize for me was the inclusion of Cynthia Eid's work. She is a master silversmith; it is a joy to look at her art.

Best Techniques Manual for Silversmiths
I refer to this book as my silversmithing bible. I'm mostly self-taught, so this book filled in lots of blanks for me. I think you need to have some experience for this book to be helpful. I could see the instructions being a bit of a challenge for a complete beginner.

Must have for your jewelry-making reference library.
Learn the basics and take your jewelry making to an advanced level with this fabulous foundation resource for silver jewelry making. Easy to understand directions and good visuals. I looked through many jewelry instruction books before deciding on this one and was very impressed with it. Can often find it on sale and is paperback, so great value for price. Recommend for all levels, for beginner learning and reference source for advanced workers. Also, projects are beautiful, sophisticated and very wearable. Many technique books have projects that you would never wear, whereas the examples in this book are creative and something you would wear and inevitably receive positive feedback.
