Not that the first album of this set is by any means prehistoric - it is stacked full of beautiful, mellow and instantly accessible music. Sometimes 'instant' isn't good - it can be a sugar-rush which fades soon after the first listen. This doesn't. This is rich, crafted music which feels alive, full of ear worms that are still grooving inside your head when you wake up in the morning. If you've not heard Mayer's music before, this is the perfect place to start. The set is beautifully packaged, incorporating the artwork from all five albums in a good-quality booklet. At first it was not what I thought it might be as I had only heard him play live on an Eric Clapton DVD where he was much more " rockier". The albums in this book are all brilliant and I will certainly be looking for more.
