Charcoal Basket

This makes my Weber kettle much easier to smoke with. Typically, I use the snake method, which requires me to move a slab of ribs around so the end is never directly above the coals. Plus, having the coals lie directly on the wall of the kettle will likely reduce the lifespan of the kettle. These are mighty convenient because you can choose to have heat on one side or both sides of the kettle and you can have easy access to add more charcoal or wood chips/chunks simply by lifting the hinged portion of the cooking grate.

Did not fire her up yet, just sat these down inside the grill for storage as it is winter now and just not into grilling where have equipment, more of a summer thing out here, when in town, was just outside door and cooked year round, this is in side yard as front yard if for viewing the lake... I see others who sell high end grills with these sort of inserts have similar design, but the ends in front are welded and there are no openings towards food, hope this is not an issue as I never cooked in this manner, now I did cook thick meat before and had coals pilled on 1 side and cooked meat on other to try and slow cook it and that worked, this will be even better as I can contain that pile and even have a pair of piles going. More of a gas cooker myself, but there are times I like the smokey flavor too, and I have this Weber and a horseshoe designed pit on one end of my firepit where I build a fire, then drag coals into the cooking area and the rear sears the front smokes and people bring over meat to cook after they tried it and I helped set up a few with simple concrete blocks too.. I watch dump for grates, and either buy or save blocks when find, takes about 26 full sized and 2-4 half sized to create, nice when a crowd as everyone can enjoy a fire vs staring at a BBQ grill waiting for food... But this will work on those slow cooked items using the Weber and will try next season.

This pair of baskets replace the OEM charcoal baskets that eventually burned out after a few years of use. They appear to be the same gauge metal and the design is simple and effective. They fit in the 22' Weber Gold perfectly and make it easy to create a two-zone grilling setup. They will eventually burn out, as all baskets do, but I look forward to a few years of good use from them

Smoked chicken breast is amazing, especially when done with charcoal and wood chunks. This charcoal basket makes it easy to get the charcoal in the right spot, instead of trying to wrangle charcoal into the perfect spot by hand.My only complaint, and it's admittedly a small one, but I feel like a little tack weld on the sides would have helped with rigidity. Otherwise these are great if you own a kettle grill and love to smoke or just need that heat on one side of the grill.

I've been cooking with my Weber Kettle for many, many years. I often use indirect heating, and these charcoal divider baskets will make it a lot easier. My grill has fold-up panels that allow access to each side of the kettle when cooking with indirect heat- so when I want to add fuel to the baskets while cooking, I just flip each side up. These are well-constructed baskets. I can't say anything about longevity yet, but if they're stainless, they should last quite a while.
