I got this Sunglo Season It Buttery Salt hoping to recreate that classic movie theater popcorn flavor at home. It’s great! I pop my popcorn in the microwave, then spray it with a fine mist of olive oil and sprinkle this popcorn salt on it, being sure to get a light coating over all of it. I really, really like it and feel this is a pretty healthy way to eat popcorn. The flavor is good. It does give popcorn a buttery, salty taste and the fine powder coats kernels evenly, which I really like. It’s easy to sprinkle without clumping, and a little goes a long way. The bright yellow color definitely adds to the “theater style” look, and makes it easy to see how much salt you have added. The ingredient list is simple, which I appreciate, especially being diacetyl free, gluten free, and dairy free. The 35 oz resealable bag is a good size and should last a long time, especially for my frequent popcorn nights. The packaging keeps it fresh and is easy to store. I really like this buttery popcorn salt. The price is reasonable for the large bag, and it gives my popcorn the buttery flavor without the dairy side effects (my diet has to be gluten and dairy free). The serving size is 1/4 teaspoon. I put 2 servings (1/2 tsp) in one bag of microwave popcorn and this was more than enough. I think 1 serving would be plenty for a whole bag. When comparing this with the Kernel's Seasonings that you often see in movie theaters, the same amount of this seasoning has 4x as much sodium per 1/4 tsp serving. However, I find that I need to use more than one serving of the other seasoning to get the desired taste so perhaps it isn't quite as different in sodium level as it appears at first. This seasoning is a very fine powder. The bag is resealable and has a nice wide opening, which is easy to get a tsp into. I put this in the bag of microwave popcorn after it cooked, shook it up and it seemed to coat evenly. I didn't notice any kernels that were much more seasoned than the others. It didn't turn the popcorn an orange color despite the color of the seasoning. To me, the flavor is more salty than buttery. This is a large bag that contains over 800 servings so it will last quite a long time with home use and would be large enough for commercial use.

I don't really taste much else, and for $14.49 a bag (at the time I ordered it) I was expecting something pretty spectacular. There's no butter flavor at all for me. It's not bad, it just reminds of seasoned salt (if they only used about half the "seasoned" part). We tried it on fresh popcorn, and we applied it very generously, so I think we would've noticed any other flavors. Like, say, butter. Again, there's nothing wrong with it if you take it on its own merits: it hasn't gotten clumpy or lumpy since we opened it, despite being a little too close to the popcorn popper a couple of times. It doesn't expire for almost a year. But after having some name brands of popcorn seasoning over the years that tasted like the thing they were supposed to taste like, this was a letdown.

We make a lot of popcorn for snacking in the evenings while watching TV. We recently got some popcorn oil, so I thought this combined with the oil would give us a more "movie theatre" flavor. It definitely does - it adds a salty, buttery flavor. However, a little goes a long way! We sprinkled a little into the oil before adding the popcorn, and the end result still had the taste and feel of popcorn that had been salted after the fact. So I would try less than you think is necessary if you're adding to the oil directly - you can always add more to the finished popcorn if needed. The bag is pretty large and for the small amount we used on our first batch, I expect it will last us at least a year (maybe more). Considering that, it's a great value for the money.

I ordered this buttery popcorn salt hoping for that classic movie theater flavor, but it’s worth noting right away — there’s no actual butter in it. It’s an artificial buttery flavoring added to very fine, yellow-colored salt. The texture is super fine, almost powdery, which I like. It sticks well and dissolves quickly. I sprinkled some on scrambled eggs this morning and it blended in instantly without any crunchy salt bits, which was nice. That said, I personally couldn’t really detect much of a butter flavor. To me, it mostly just tasted like salt. Maybe a slight something extra, but definitely not that rich, buttery popcorn vibe I was expecting. The bag is generous at 2 pounds 3 ounces, so you get a lot. If the buttery flavor were stronger, I’d call it a good value. As it stands, it feels a bit pricey for what is essentially very fine yellow salt. Overall, it works well as a finely ground salt and the texture is great — I just wish the butter flavor came through more. Docking one star because the buttery flavor didn’t quite deliver for me.

I have ordered pack of 12 which says on the description too but got only 1 pack, looks like i am not the only one whith whome it happned and took 8 days to deliver.

I’ll be honest, this was a bit of a mistake purchase and now I have a giant bag of buttery salt. That said, it has actually turned out to be pretty useful. We used to do a lot of popcorn on the weekends when the kids would come over, and this definitely gives that classic movie theater flavor. It has that bright yellow buttery look and coats popcorn evenly without tasting artificial or metallic. The texture is very fine, so it sticks well to popcorn instead of falling straight to the bottom of the bowl. I transferred some into a small salt shaker to keep handy, which makes it much easier to use than digging into a big bag. I also tried a little when making chicken and rice to add a buttery flavor without actually adding butter, and it worked surprisingly well. The 35oz bag is huge and will last a long time. Probably longer than I expected. It reseals well and stays fresh. If you make popcorn regularly or want that movie theater taste at home, this definitely delivers.

This is a fine powdered salt in a resealable (over) 2 lb bag. I like that it uses riboflavin in place of the artificial colors in older version to give it a buttery orange tone, but the "buttery" is very lacking if present at all. It seems to be more suggestion of butter with the coloring than actual butter flavor, which is a slight let down. It is an excellent fine salt powder for lightly dusting foods. It clung to my microwave popcorn and a pinch was enough to season deep fried French fries. The saltiness seems saltier than normal salt, and less is needed to attain the "right" level of saltiness. It's a decent value for the size, but having more buttery smoothness to the tang of the salt would make this full 5 star worthy. I used the empty shaker from another brand of butter salt and stored the rest in the pantry. The other brand I find too mellow with butter flavor and not enough salt, LOL. Maybe Sunglo can have a meeting with "The Kernal" and make the perfect blend? Certainly easier to use out of a small holed shake dispenser than pinching from the bag.
