I had my own Essential PH-1 after the plan expired due to a crack on the screen. Nobody knew at the time how to take the phone apart but I did and after applying the new screen, I was able to get it working and flash a more recent Android version.

This PH-1 digitizer worked great, And Looks Great. Period. Went in very smooth, worked with ZERO issues. Make sure to remove the old adhesive from the phone before applying new glue. Use (NOT INCLUDED), T-7000 Adhesive and make this replacement easy. Its like $5.00 on Amazon or at Walmart. Yes, you need it!! DO NOT EVER, USE SUPER GLUE. EVER!!!!! YES, I'M YELLING. NO SUPER GLUE!!! EVER. DID I MAKE MY POINT? Just accept the fact that when you remove the old digitizer screen, it is going to break. Make sure and watch a Video on this process, Many on YouTube. Screen is removed from the Front, Not the Back! Make sure to use a hair dryer and heat the sides. Also, NEVER do this replacement WITHOUT ALSO REPLACING THE BATTERY, AND GET A GOOD ONE. Understand with the PH1 getting old, the replacement batteries most likely have been sitting on the shelf for Many years. So don't expect much, and MAKE SURE TO CONDITION the battery after installing. (Easy, Charge to 100% then use it to about 30 - 40%, then repeat for three days. 100% - 30%.) Really!!! Let's face it, if your going to put the money into your old Essential PH-1, Do it right, ONCE!!! LOL Total for Screen and Battery. Approx: $35.00. Took about 30 mins. DON'T over think this, this was a Pretty easy replacement. Again, just realize your going to break the old digitizer, but your replacing it with this one, so no Big deal!! Needed small screwdrivers, Hair dryer worked fine. THICK playing cards work great, Razor blade just to start. Hope this helped. My PH-1 is living again.
