Q: Is the mic in this cable better than the mic in other V-Moda cable such as their 3-button speakeasy cable?

It’s on par but if I had to pick a winner from the two, I’d go with the regular speakeasy. This lightning cable is way better sounding but the mic is a bit underwhelming, to be frank. Hope this helps.

Q: Should this work with the airpods max? i plugged my max into the macbook using this cable but there's no audio.

No, this works in the opposite direction from the cable needed for AirPods Max. This converts digital audio at the lightning end (iPhone/iPad) into analog audio at the 3.5mm end (v-moda headphone). The Aipods Max need a cable to convert the analog at the 3.5mm jack (amplifier, mo3 player, etc) back into a digital signal at the Apple headphone’s lightning jack.
