Is this stuff heat resistant?

I'm sure it can withstand any household pipe such as hot water or heating OK. My use was for drain pipe leakage which would/could be almost as hot as hot water pipe and it was fine. Only pipping that would be hotter would be heating, and that is limited to 180 degrees which I think the tape should endure.

Can the tape be removed if I want to replace the p-trap at a later time, or is it permanent?

Yes. It can be easily removed with a utility knife or scissors.

What might work better (without replacing the pipe)? Minor leak in the assembly where pipe connects to bathtub under house. Do some epoxies work?

This is only intended to be a temporary repair to prevent or slow further leak damage. I would quickly patch this tape until it is convenient to have a plumber or yourself fix with replacement parts. Good luck!
