Game Changer in Efficiency & Error Reduction
This is an amazing product, and a game changer for people who need reasonable accuracy and are trying to reduce human errors. First off: it will not replace my normal tape measure which is always on my belt. But I use it when I need to take a bunch of measurements in a row, scoping out a new project, or for "high consequence" measurements (would cost me more than $50 in money or time if I make a mistake). If it would blow your mind that a measuring tape would require a firmware update, then don't get this product. Just keep on doing what you're doing. Also, if you are not comfortable with the fact that it is electronic and you need to fairly often plug it in to charge, then don't get this product. Those things don't bother me and there is a lot to really like about this product. It greatly reduces errors and is super efficient. And if you're one of those people who never makes an error, then don't get this product. It has a big, bright display, works in all lighting and the e-paper list of measurement on the side is super useful. Its perpendicular laser is very useful and helps reduce errors when aligning things. Before purchasing, I thought the smart phone integration was a gimmick that I would never use. But it is very well designed, and I used it the first day I got it. Intuitive, and powerful. No more writing down numbers, then losing the paper, or mis-reading or incorrectly entering the numbers into a calculator. The Rock smartphone app (while relatively young in it's life) is pretty darn well designed and useful. My phone is in my pocket, but receiving all the measurements I'm taking, and you can organize by project and sub-project areas. I know all the tricks for doing fractional math, and can do it quickly. However, I end up making mistakes maybe 5% of the time, and this tool eliminates those errors. And wasted time/money in fixing the errors. This tool will not replace a caliper, if you need very high precision. But IMHO it is plenty accurate enough for most construction needs. Plan on spending an hour or two getting yourself familiar with the menus, buttons when you first get it. It's all very well designed, but like anything new, you should get familiar with it. Practice some with it and you'll realize the menu system on the tool (which at first might seem janky) is very cleverly designed for efficiency. I've only had it for 2 months, but it does seem very durable and well built. Great design for changing tapes when they wear out. It is fairly heavy, so it's not on my belt all day every day, but it *is* on my belt when I need it. When I first saw this product on a web page, I scoffed and told my wife that I would never spend $250 on a tape measure. But after doing some research, I did, thinking I could just return it if it was a piece of junk. So I get to eat my words. This is one of my favorite products in years. Reekon folks: great job! Looking forward to what else you come up with and/or improvements

A game changer.
I’ve been using this tape for about 2 weeks in a Commercial setting as a plumber. Been working indoors for rough-in in Ohio winter temperatures. Seems to be holding up pretty well. Ergonomics are well thought out. Took about 4 days of constant use to work my out of muscle memory with the traditional style tape measures and get use to this one, but it begins to feel natural. It is heavy compared to a traditional 25 footer but it’s not a big deal to me. I work with pipe diameters ranging from 3/8” to 20” so it isn’t a big deal to me. If anything it gives it a sturdy and solid feeling. You do always have the thought in the back of your mind of it breaking because it is digital and expensive relative to other tape measures out there but that’s a personal issue lol. There is a learning curve to it. For me I was trying to use the digital readout all the time but I began to use it like a regular tape measure and use the features of the Tomahawk as I needed them. When I got passed that the tape really began to change the way I work. I began to use the ink display as a notepad. I would occasionally look at prints and look at layout measurements then pull out my tape to the measurement and save it and that why I can glance at the ink display for measurements when laying out. Also when I’m doing calculations on a calculator I pull out the tape to whatever my calculations were and save it. The relative zero features is something I have been using a lot when pulling off of beams and measuring through penetrations. The laser is great when you need it. I will say that the holster clip that came with the Tomahawk broke the 3rd day. I’ve been using the tape with my Atlas46 chest harness and has been great. So far so good and I’ll update this review or leave another one in 6 months or if it breaks, which ever comes first.

You know you want it!
When I first saw this I was impressed, however, I needed to justify its hefty price tag. I held off for a while; months later, I finally made the purchase after considering how much time it could save me. I'm the kind of guy who forgets measurements after about the 3rd number and this device remembers everything! For that reason alone it is a justifiable purchase. And I could not be happier! It feels good in the hand; working with it is intuitive. It is designed well. The app, in my opinion, is slow, especially with slow or no Internet; however, feature-wise it's quite impressive (I was outside, recording measurements on to a photograph (a cool feature!), but it worked really slowly and could not keep up in real time - which was disappointing - but I got the measurements). Bottom line: Is it worth the price? I think so, especially with remembering measurements.

Lots to like but also some significant questionable design choices.
The Tomahawk tape measure offers robust features along with some significant usability issues. Here's my experience: Pros: Durability: Built like a tank, it's designed to withstand rough handling. Customer Support: Responsive, though only available via email. Innovative Features: Includes multiple functionalities that typically require separate tools, such as a viewable measurement from any angle—a bonus for aging eyes. Cons: Calibration Process: While the tape measure is accurate, achieving this accuracy requires a complex calibration process that can be frustrating and time-consuming. Firmware Updates: The device frequently indicates that a firmware update is available, even after recent updates. But beware. If you apply a firmware update, whether its actually new or just the ever present message that says a firmware update is available, you will be back to step one, which is the calibration process, which isn't any easier the second time around. Charging System: Lacks a standard USB port on the battery; charging can only be done via a port on the tape measure itself, making the tape measure unusable while charging the battery. Have a second battery, you double this frustration! Battery drain has been improved with firmware updates but you will experience battery drain. Label Printing: The label printer requires the use of a smartphone app, which is impractical for use in conditions like working on scaffolding. Ideally, one should be able to print labels directly from the measure to their printer but the app middleman is a requirement. Despite its solid build and helpful features, the Tomahawk tape measure's design overlooks practical, real-world use. The calibration and charging systems, in particular, need improvement. I've communicated these issues to the company and received a standard acknowledgment but no substantive follow-up. Rating: While the Tomahawk is not a 1-star product, I felt these real world examples wouldn't be noticed if I gave it a 3 or 4 star review. The mentioned issues might deter some users. This is a real-world review aimed at highlighting the practical aspects of the product.

You Get What You Pay For
I love this thing because it allows me to measure quickly while keeping a quick measurement record with a button click. It gives measurement variations as desired. It's big and very sturdy. It works with an app if you're working at a job site. The app is really too much for a DIYer like myself. I suspect a lot of the cost is due to the software app and the one used on the unit itself. I really like the flexibility, although it is a bit much for my skill set.
