Nice Sword
I AM a historical full contact weapons specialist and find Cold Steel Cuttlery's products to be exceptional. I even have thier polyeurothane practice weapons. The blade is finely crafted and is easily sharpened with a nice EZE Lap diamond sharpener, the high carbon steel allows it to keep a good edge much longer than conventional iron swordcrafting and is a pound or so lighter, which makes it very easy to spear and slash! I got it on sale for $263, albeit it normally runs for around $400...I would not buy it for $400, however it is an extreme value at $250 or thereabouts ~smiles~ I AM editing this, as I have now owned this sword for a while, I have used it while Snowshoeing and Backpacking in the wilderness in deep snowpacks, it was used as a machette, woodsplitter, and kept the wolves at bay ~grins~. It got discolored and rusty quickly, but was easly enough polished back up with my EZE Lap and some oils ~smiles~, I should have oiled the sword and scabbard before entering wet wheather, but I spaced it...However she came back nicely, shows no wear....The High Carbon Steel lives up to her rep ~smiles~ Go, go Coldsteel ~hails~

Fantastic Norse Sword.
I am very happy with this sword as it's exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a quality, functional, Viking style sword but I didn't want to spend all my money. That's exactly what this is. Now for people looking for a historically accurate display piece, look elsewhere. This is a weapon, not a collectible. Who you'd fight with it I don't know though. Maybe clowns. Make sure you also buy a sword frog so you can carry this if you plan to as it does not come with a belt system. Comes with a decent edge, that you can sharpen if you like. I sharpened it slightly but the edge it comes with will do the job. Right out of the box it was slicing full milk jugs in half without spilling from the bottom half. Tip is fantastic. Sheath is a little stick but I've had it maybe 3 hours and I've broken it in already. Definitely would buy again.

perfect for the price
Perfect sword for the price. I seen a lot of people complain about the quality of these swords but come on, its a sub $300 sword, what do expect. If you want a perfect sword spend more money and you will get just that. As for this one, I was very surprised as to how good it actually was. It came very sharp, even maybe too sharp, but I wont complain. The hilt and handle are tight, not loose as I expected for a threaded tang. And the sword fits nicely inside the scabbard, which is also nicely put together. A lot of expensive swords dont even come with a scabbard, so you would have to spend another 400 to 500 to get one. If your looking for a fully functional sword, and dont want to spend a whole lot, buy this one. There may be some imperfections here and there but nothing worth not buying it.

Product is great, packaging not so much
The actual product is great. I bought it for my husband and he loves it, stating that it's well balanced, the edge appears sharp and it has a good heft. The scabbard is nicely stitched, there is a small rough spot at the handle, but that's miner and to be expected with leather. The packaging is another story. I read the other reviews that described the flimsy packaging material but decided to take a chance. The sword came wrapped in one layer of bubble wrap and encased in a flimsy cardboard box. The box had been taped shut in two spots and the cardboard tore at those spots, leaving one end to flap open and expose the sword. Luckily there was not any damage, but I think that's thanks to the skill of the delivery driver. I am amazed that the Cold Steel company hasn't improved their packaging with all the reviews that are now posted on Amazon.

Tang snapped off at pommel
Under easy/moderate use only, the tang snapped off at the pommel. I own another sword from Cold Steel and it survived everything, even hard use. This Viking sword of theirs seems to have similar breaking issues between users. This was a poor quality sword and I've sent it back to the seller. Awaiting arrival to them and a refund. I'll be contacting Cold Steel directly as well. Hoped for better. Even for the price point it should have been more tough than this.

Snug scabbard at first,but nice.
Fit and finish is good. Some bite on the hilt wrapping, hit it with some leather conditioner and it softened down quickly. The scabbard is very snug and after coating the blade with wd40 and drawing/resheathing several times, this loosened a bit. I expect there is a breaking in period here, but for right now I'm keeping it out of the scabbard on a display stand. Haven't tested blade sharpness by cutting, but it seems decently sharp out of box. The balance point is about two palms down from the crosspiece, it swings and reacts well. There is also a nice "song" when swinging it, it "swooshes" pleasantly. Quite happy with it overall.

Great Sword, Worth Owning!
Came well packaged in a long black box, wrapped separately in bubble wrap, nothing was poking out of the box, is very sharp and very sturdy, nothing is loose, I was worried about it after all the negative reviews but this sword is awesome even if its a variant or Cold Steels own take on the sword. Great scabbard, there is no gap between the cross gaurd and the metal on the scabbard. The only issue and it's just minor, I need to wrap a little more leather around the handle, the leather wrap around the wood core is a bit thin and I can forsee that hurting my hand.

What a great first sword this makes, it's rigid and forward balanced, fits one hand easily length wise, If you wear a large or extra large+ glove it fits in the hand fine. Medium or less you may find it uncomfortable, the handle is a bit long and flat and i know now through friends i've had hold it that you need a larger hand for it to be comfortable. I don't mean that as any sort of boast, seriously if you buy medium or smaller gloves this sword will just bother you comfort wise. I mean this as a warning, buy the hand and a half sword if you wear medium or less. See the other reviews on here, hand comfort is a common problem. It's like holding a ruler covered in leather and if your hand is small it lands on the knuckles and you will hate it. It's of fair quality and great steel. Mine came arrow straight and shiny. It's somewhat sharp; but with an hour on the whet stone i got it to cut paper on both sides easily. It isn't perfect, but it doesn't break the bank either. 1040 tool steel is excellent, and with little to no flex in the blade, it's meant to cleave instead of slash. Like all swords, it's wholly impractical and entirely useless; but one drunken night got me something on amazon i actually enjoy having for once. If you want a sword, you can do so much worse, friend. And cold steel doesn't ship to canada. so amazon's pretty much it. Ps. The sheath is very tight. You could wear it upside down reliably if you want. It takes two hands to draw it. It weighs two pounds, the balance point is about five inches into the blade from the guard. It doesn't come with a belt of any kind, but you can just wrap a belt around it if you have an old one. I hope this helps.

Product came as described, on Time. The box it shipped in, not so much. Box came open and busted up so badly I was concerned the product was damaged. Product appeared to have been sealed so this may have happened during transit. Not on the company itself. Just a heads up for anyone shipping across a border, as the company is out of the states. Ordered to Canada.

Cold Steel is a divisive brand especially when it comes to swords. I'm a huge fan of their knives and own several. It's a beautiful sword and quite functional. My gripes are these: 1 - The leather used to wrap the handle and scabbard is very soft and a bit loose. 2 - The blade was sharp enough to cut yourself, but not enough to cut paper. Large burrs ran the length of both sides of the blade, and one 5-6 inch section was blunt. I spent the better half of an hour with the Ken Onion WorkSharp to bring it to a shaving edge. I like it
