Our Inner Conflicts: A Constructive Theory of Neurosis

A classic
I've read a great many books on psychoanalysis but this has to be up there with the best of them. I can't recall reading another book in which the brief case studies leap so vividly off the page and the thought processes and behaviours described are so clearly and expertly delineated. Whilst she proposes a theory of neurosis, it's not heavy on the theory and is remarkable free of dogma. Whatever school of psychoanalysis you adhere to, this book will sit quite comfortable alongside it, since she is so good at describing people and the problems they present - all of whom are instantly recognizable to all of us.

An unsung hero of feminist thinking and psychoanalysis
Good introduction to Horney's ideas and thinking - some of the anecdotal scenarios have dated a little, but still essential reading, and a refreshing take on (and rejection of) Helene Deutsch et al's theory of female masochism. Found strong parallels with her basic neurotic positions (moving towards, against and away from) and Bowlby's attachment styles. Has prompted me to seek out more of her work.

compelling and very useful ideas for my clinical practice
One of Dr. Roberto Assagioli's referenced texts on the treatment of ordinary neurosis and the early stages of an individual's evolution towards a bio-psychosynthesis, I found this excellently written book by the German Psychoanalyst Dr. Horney presented me with clear, compelling and very useful ideas for my clinical practice.

Highly influential book of its time
Book in excellent condition, as expected, delayed delivery due to the Xmas/New Year period but not a problem.

Very good
Very good although not as good as her 'Neurosis and Human Growth' which is for me one ot the best books I've ever read. Karen Horney's books are way much better than any of the the shallow pop psychology books nowadays.

Solid purchase . . .
I had originally purchased this book in an older, mass paperback edition. After reading it, I decided I wanted a more recent, higher quality edition to add to my library. Both the book and service for this purchase met expectations . . .

I was sent a first or second copy of the book. Very bad quality.
Received the product before time but the product was of very bad quality with pen marks. The page quality was very very cheap not even a printing paper worse than that (and original copies are never like that.) It was definitely not an original copy. It looked like it was xeroxed and binded together. The seller was Cloudtail. Did not expect this. I requested for a replacement immediately. I hope I get the original one. If the 2nd delivery I receive turns out to be the same I will return again. Will not be accepting a second copy for such an expensive book.
