Salmon Rillettes with Lemon and Dill - Les Mouettes d'Arvor - 4.4 oz

I have had this on my shelf for a little while and just tried it last night. Was very good. Very spreadable and is great on some toast. Just a hint of dill. Hard to believe this was only 125g, seems like more than that.

This is a great product from France but the price the vendor has on Amazon is outrageous. More than twice what you can find elsewhere on the internet.

I eat a lot of canned fish from every Country possible. My past time is watching canned fish reviews on Youtube. Some people are into Whisky reviews I am into canned Fish. Call me crazy! I Don't care. I spotted these and just had to try it. Salmon who could go wrong. Rillettes De Saumon. Great container but bad fish inside. Really awful tasting. I checked the expiration date and its good for 11/23/24. Upon opening, this dead fish smell just hits ya! I should have stopped myself and not used this but hey..it was 3am in the morning, I awoke to make my husbands lunch for his take along to work. Had I had my morning coffee or tea I would have caught it. I made my husband a nice torpedo sub using this today. With butter lettuce on a french bread torpedo sub roll. Packed his lunch and chilled it in the fridge for a few hrs until he left. He ate it just after noon time, after putting it into his little work fridge... and says its like SO FISHY! Super fishy. I decided to try the left overs that have been chilling now in the fridge for over 9 hrs. Yes.. awful tasting like a super sharp taste of dead fish. Most unappealing. Over powers any spice put into this concoction. Almost like the type of smell you smell when a large school of fish die at oceanside and rot for days on end in the hot sun. I am shocked for the price this was! I expected this to at the very least be palatable! The only way to get this taste out of my mouth is to eat a pickle. This might be a one up... I have a second container of this and will change this review if the second container is not like the first. Both were purchased at the same time same expiration date. Also the seal on the jar was intact. So its not like it sat open rotting on some shelf. I think the fish used to make this were bad to start off with.

I wasn't sure what to expect, and it was better than I thought it would. Very flavorful!

First class product right out of the jar. Add a little salad oil if you want to use it as a dip. There is a surprising amount of product in that little jar so take steps to preserve any leftovers. Excellent flavor.
