Field Guide to Succulents in Southern Africa

Book in perfect condition. Using it for reference as a succulent plant grower.

I am delighted to see this publication which is well researched, well written and well illustrated. I think it will be of use to residents of Southern Africa, tourists to the region and also the many people who grow succulents as indoor, container plants and, where the climate is suitable, out-of-doors. One aspect which is missing, is any mention of the photosynthetic system of each of the plant species mentioned in this account. This may be because research into this topic is still relatively limited and so the information may not yet be available. I would dearly like to know how many of the taxa are CAM plants ( or facultatively CAM) , which C4 and which C3.. Maybe by the time a second edition is necessary this information can be added?

This is a dry academic probably factually correct approach to a potentially fascinating subject. Useful to a gardener and an indigenous plant enthusiast : nit at all.

Good book. Informative. The only issue was the pictures place the plants in their natural habitat and they are hard to see.

Ein wunderbares Werk! Mehr als 700 Sukkulente-Arten sind in Wort und Bild dargestellt. Der Nutzer kann mittel Wort und Bild die Art meistens bestimmen. Häufig ist dies sogar allein mittels Bild möglich. Sehr gut finde ich, dass man mittels Minikarten-Darstellung die Standorte der Vorkommen "einkreisen" kann. Die Blütezeiten werden jeweils grob erwähnt, zB. "It flowersfrom mid- winter through to late spring". Eine Monatszeile mit markierten Blühmonaten würde die Benutzerfreundlichkeit noch weiter verbessern. Insgesamt ist es ein benutzerfreundlichen Feldführer. Da das Buch wegen der hohen Papierqualität (verbunden mit hoher Bildqualität) recht hoch ist , könnte ich mir das Werk gut auf einem (leichten) Tablet vorstellen. Wie der Titel vermuten lässt ist der Text in englischer Sprache verfasst. Mit botanischen und englischen Grundkenntnissen lässt er sich gut erschließen. Für Interessierte kann das Werk sehr empfohlen werden.

原産地の画像は栽培するうえでも大変優れたデータ。図鑑としても良くできています。環境画像が添えられており栽培するうえで貴重な内容が満載です。 Kindle版はタブレットの劣化や破損での死亡をしたのに、新規なタブレットにうまく移行できない書籍が半数くらいあるように思う。それよりも、買い足しをしたくてもできない書籍もありなんかﾓﾔﾓﾔする。 この書籍は、その点、買い足しが簡単に出来るので何度も買い足ししています。 Amazonさん、買い足しできない書籍をなくしてほしいです。

A very comprehensive and worthwhile book

Der Guide besticht durch fast durchweg hilfreiche Fotos und Verbreitungskarten. Insbesondere einige sonst nicht so ausführlich dokumentierte Arten kommen hier gut weg. Nur die Informationen zu Lithops / Conophytum sind mehr exemplarisch und recht kurz gehalten. Alles in allem ein sehr lohnender Kauf - wenn man einigermaßen mit der englischen Sprache zurechtkommt.
