500 mg improves my sleep when taken before bed. Both falling asleep sooner and deeper more quality sleep., 1000 mg has a bit of sleepiness the next day. So, I know it is working and has quality behind it. I stick to the 500 mg. My psychoactive meds have a secondary serotonin agonist effect already and I eat my daily RDA of protein (where you naturally get it from). So, I am not deficient in tryptophan. As such, I don't see additional mood benefits from it beyond what my meds already do. But, others may find benefit there even if I do not, and may support meds that affect serotonin or can benefit from a potential increase in it.

I like Bulk Supplements. Good quality control and potency for a reasonable price.The dosage is perfect and really helps improve the quality of your sleep. Unfortunately, after several days of use, I developed severe headache and fatigue. I looked through my geneticlifehacks DNA analysis to understand what was happening. I discovered I cannot use Tryptophan because I have 2 homozygous ACMSD mutations which results in a lack of a crucial enzyme. The tryptophan isn't metabolized to seratonin and niacin, it takes an alternate pathway and becomes Quinolinic Acid, a short lived but potent neurotoxin. Long term, it contributes to a prolonged inflammatory response. It's a shame, because I thought I found the solution to my insomnia, but it wasn't meant to be.

I grabbed these to help with nocturia, but sadly not effective in my case.

Sleep quality: I have issues with winding down. “Wired & tired” they call it. I take one 500mg pill about 2 hours before lights out. If I’m still revved a second one does the trick shortly before my usual 5mg dissolving melatonin and I’m out like a light. I don’t wake up in the middle of the night. No morning grogginess. Why did you pick this product vs others?: I trust this brand - I use other Bulk products. Price was good.
