Love it
I have a Koi pond (about 800 gallons) and I think this Aquadyne 2.2 BHE is sized perfectly for 800 - 1,000 gallons with about a dozen medium sized koi. I use it along with a double (parallel) UV clarifier at 25 watts each. Before the weather got really hot (over 95 degrees), I could backwash every two weeks. But now with the record heat, I notice the water gets a little cloudy after about 7 - 10 days, so I just backwash every week now. As long as I do this, the water is amazingly crystal clear. Be sure to get the blower!! It makes backwashing so easy (be sure to carefully read the instructions on backwashing as it's not entirely intuitive). Glad I finally bit the bullet and got this product.

Aquadyne Model 2.2B HE Filter
Great Product that actually lives up to the promise! (Updated 01/2018)I live in an area with four distinct seasons and run my system year round. I've had my koi pond and the same fish I started with since 1997. During that time I have cycled through several items (filters, pumps, UVS etc.) in an attempt to get the pond where I wanted it - limited maintenance for me, and a healthy environment for the fish.I have used the Aquadyne 2.2-B HE since April 2005. I have a 5000 gallon base Koi pond on one end of the yard and a fountain on the other with a stream bed connecting the two. This layout does tend to collect a lot of yard debris (dust, dirt, leaves etc.) following a rain, as well as mud and dirt from two labs that can't resist cooling off in the stream bed and the larger pond area. After a heavy rain which tends to wash a lot of debris into the pond, it only takes a couple of hours to cycle it back to crystal clear. I clean the Aquadyne filter about once a week during the spring season when I get a lot of pollen and dirt from spring showers and large oak trees, after that I clean it about every ten days to two weeks. I have even have gone 4 weeks between cleanings on occasion without any problems. I don't clean the filter during the winter months even though i do keep my system running all year long. It only takes about 10 minutes to clean and it discharges only a small amount of water during each cleaning cycle. We recycle the discharge to water our plants/shrubs, trees etc. so for us, there is zero water waste. What's not often known about a product is the level of support that you will get after the sale. Greg (Koi Camp) has been very generous with his time and provided me with valuable guidance and advice throughout the years. So when you need help or have a question, you can get it. I simply can't say enough about the help I've received over the years from Greg.Pros: After sale support, very low ongoing cost of ownership, rock solid filtration, time between cleanings. Can be cleaned in about 10 minutes and with minimal water loss.Cons: None that I know of after almost ten years of continuous use in trying conditions (wooded lot, dogs etc.).I would recommend the blower attachment (if it is an option) especially if you have a heavy filtration load as I do.[Update: 01/2018]I’ve been working on winterizing everything around my house, faucets, water feed lines, pond equipment etc. in preparation for some cold weather (single digits and snow). I’ve got just one issue that i can’t get around on my koi pond. After an hour, I finally decide to call Greg at Aquadyne. The voice message says it’s after business hours but to leave a message if it’s an emergency. It’s 22 degrees and falling towards single digits. My 66 year old fingers are wet and frozen. I’m sitting on the floor of a wooden shed that houses my pump, filter and UV light plus enough stored items to make it difficult to move around. It’ll be dark in less than an hour and I can’t seem to get around a problem I’m having - It seems like an emergency to me, so I leave a message but really didn’t expect to hear from anyone that night. The short version is Greg calls me back in a few minutes and after a little trouble shooting gets me around the problem and my koi pond cycling again. So I'm back inside before full night fall and single digit snowy weather. This level of service is difficult to to put in a marketing brochure or an Amazon product description, but when it’s 22 degrees and your hands are frozen, it’s priceless!
