You don't have to move the dials, they can stay on Auto, but this camera practically calls you out to use them - and you'll want to! Out-of-camera JPEGs possess a richness and character that often required significant post-processing with my Canon files. The Fujifilm X100VI has quickly become my favorite everyday carry camera. I absolutely love the feature set Fujifilm packed into such a compact body. The 40.2MP sensor delivers outstanding image quality, the 5-axis in-body image stabilization (up to 6 stops) is a huge upgrade, and having 6.2K video in a camera this small is genuinely impressive. It’s powerful without feeling bulky, which makes it easy to take everywhere. The camera arrived very well-packaged, which immediately gave a good first impression and showed attention to detail. Once I started using it, I was especially surprised by how effective the built-in ND filter is—it’s far more useful than I expected and has become something I use regularly. The film simulations are another standout feature; they’re fantastic straight out of camera and make shooting incredibly fun and creative without needing much post-processing. There are a few downsides worth mentioning. The autofocus can be very inconsistent at times, which unfortunately seems to be typical for Fuji cameras. It works well enough most of the time, but it’s not always reliable. Also, the shutter button feels a bit soft and lacks the firm, tactile feedback I prefer. Lastly, I would have loved it if the rear screen tilted in the same way as the Fujifilm X-T series cameras, as that design is more flexible for certain shooting angles. That said, none of these issues outweigh the strengths of this camera. The image quality, features, size, and overall shooting experience make the X100VI an outstanding choice. I've owned a few cameras from fujifilm so i'll be speaking of this review from a hobbyist photographer's perspective that's owned those cameras. At hand, the camera is still remarkably lighter than an X-Pro3 with a pancake lens such as a XF27mm f/2.8 WR. Build quality for my copy is good. Very solid feel to it, though i've seen issues with quality control on the net, I've never reached out to fujifilm, personally, so can't speak to their service. The things that stands out in this version of the X100 for me is the IBIS (in body image stabilization) and image sensor capable of getting solid photos up to 12800 ISO (that food photo I'm accompanying in this review had aperture set to f/5). Being able to shoot handheld in low lighting situations is lovely for a camera this small and it's bonkers how rich the photo looks with that sensitivity. The user interface is solid. I love the refinements done when compared from my X-Pro3. Custom functions can be set for film recipes and what not, but only the custom functions where you create them pop up, making it easier to cycle through your choices. It's a smart refinement. It feels like the image transfer and phone app integrations have generally improved for me, too, and I can transfer my photos on the fly from my camera to my phone to share quickly. I still run into situations where I need to force restart my app, but overall functional. All the other things I want to glow about with this review can probably be comparable to those that looked at X100V (and other fujifilm camera) reviews so I won't really go there. Great lens, leaf shutter, fuji's color science, analog aesthetic, generally good build, etc. Only marks I'd go against this is its battery life and lack of weather sealing. I imagine the battery can be lengthened with turning off the IBIS from continuous to shooting only or off (it feels like my battery lasts longer on the X-Pro3). Weather sealing can be fixed by picking up filter ring adapter and sticking a UV filter or protector glass on it (which i did). Overall, this is a lovely camera to handle and is great for street, travel, and personal photography. This camera just does so much for both photos and still. The 40 megapixel sensor resolves a ton of detail. The new ibis system helps so much lower shutter speeds for stills. For video this really helps with static handheld shots. You can do some light panning left and right, but don't expect to do any type of run and gun video shooting. The ibis is not strong enough for that type of filming. In my use case scenario, I film mostly short bursts of videos 15-45 seconds and this camera is perfect for those scenes. The built in ND filter is also perfect for video applications so that I can get that natural motion blur in my videos. Coming from any other hybrid camera, being able to just hit a button and the ND filter being turned on is so great compared to have to screw and unscrew nd filters. I do wish they did update the lens on this camera. It resolves the 40 megapixel sensor fine, but the auto focus motors in them can't keep up with the new fujifilm algorithms. Obviously the lens is very small and its probably just not physically possible, but they were able to have an ND and ibis in this fairly compact camera, so would be great to see upgraded linear motors on the focus system on the next iteration. To me, this is the only improvement needed in its next iteration.

I bought into the hype around the X100VI and had already spent $300–$400 on accessories before the camera even arrived. Initially, I ordered it from Amazon, but it seemed like it wouldn’t ship. Customer service told me none were in the fulfillment channel. This was early May, right around the tariff announcement, so I bought one from a third-party seller instead. Ironically, the very next day Amazon notified me that it would be arriving in two days via Amazon fulfillment. Five weeks later—just after the return window closed—the camera “died.” Autofocus had been acting odd from the start, but I chalked it up to the Fuji learning curve. Then it got worse: after taking a photo, the green indicator light would stay on until the camera got hot and unusable. I’ve owned many cameras, and this was a first. I sent the X100VI in for service. It was gone for three weeks. In the meantime, I bought the OM System OM-3 and a 17mm lens (2x crop), and suddenly felt like I had everything I wanted: a lightweight, beautiful metal camera with a retro aesthetic, interchangeable lenses, and performance that felt like a precision machine. Not a Patek Philippe, but a rock-solid, reliable Rolex—responsive, creative, and fun. I’ve used cameras from my first digital (Olympus C-2000Z in 1997) to my OM-D E-M1, which lasted over 10 years and never had an issue. That’s why the Fuji experience shook me. I spent hours learning the Fuji menu system, took an online class, and really immersed myself in mastering it—because I wanted this camera to be the one. And to its credit, the X100VI is highly customizable—I accessorized mine with a leather half case, dual-direction lens hoods, black mist filters, and a polarizer. There’s nothing else quite like it in terms of personal flair. But in the end, I can only speak from my experience—and mine was deeply disappointing. A brand-new $2,000 camera that failed after five weeks and 1,500 shots? That’s unacceptable. I’m giving this 2 stars instead of 1 because maybe I got a lemon. But I wanted art, fun, and reliability—not anxiety. And while the X100VI is special, it’s not that special.
