No,it can't heat water.It is manual operation, no battery, no electric power and need to add boiling water. Before making coffee, we may suggest you preheat all parts of this machine before making coffee to get the best result.

Does the 3 in 1 flash attach to this

According to Wacaco, their 3 in 1 flask is compatible but I've personally not tried as i like my coffee strong so only use the standard cup, which is enough for an espresso.

what kind of capsule is compatible?

If you want to use coffee capsules, you can buy a Nanopresso NS Adapter. With the help of NS Adapter, the Nanopresso will be perfectly compatible with Nespresso®** Original capsules and most of compatibles. But some non Original capsules might not work well with our machines.
