Stainless steel threads seem to be harder and more durable than what I'm used to. The 1/2" version (what I purchased) has enough space to accommodate a smaller tow strap or ratchet strap. These gave me flexibility when I needed to extend the length of the ratchet strap to a farther grab location. They are very functional due to link size, link diameter and smoothness of the threads on each side.
